Overview
JWe are looking for a skilled Apparel Seamstress / Sewing Machine Operator specializing in high-performance athletic wear. In this role, you will construct custom and production gymnastics leotards, unitards, and competition apparel. The ideal candidate excels at handling delicate, highly elastic, and technical fabrics such as four-way stretch Spandex, power mesh, holographic foils, velvet, and sheer illusion overlays.
Key Responsibilities
- Specialty Assembly: Construct gymnastics garments combining multi-panel stretch fabrics, power mesh paneling, elastic binding, and decorative trims.
- Machine Operation: Expertly operate industrial 4-thread sergers (overlock), flatlock, coverstitch, and zig-zag sewing machines designed for high-stretch seams.
- Precision Handling: Sew elastic into leg openings, necklines, and armholes with consistent tension to ensure dynamic fit and movement
- Delicate Material Control: Stitch sheer mesh and lace without snagging, puckering, or tearing delicate fibers.
- Quality Inspection: Inspect finished pieces for flat, non-chafing seams, correct tension, secure thread ends, and accurate sizing match.
- Machine Care: Perform routine daily maintenance (cleaning lint build-up from stretch threads, changing specialized needles, adjusting differential feed).
- Measure, cut, sew, and assemble fabric pieces to create finished garments
- Alter and repair clothing items to meet customer specifications or improve fit and durability
- Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and craftsmanship before delivery or sale
- Use sewing machines, hand tools,
and pattern templates efficiently to execute designs precisely
- Communicate with customers or team members to clarify specifications and ensure satisfaction
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace with all sewing equipment in optimal condition
- Follow safety procedures and best practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment
Skills
- Strong proficiency in sewing techniques with attention to detail and precision
- Basic math skills for measuring fabrics, calculating dimensions, and adjusting patterns
- Ability to interpret patterns, diagrams, and technical instructions clearly
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for intricate sewing tasks
- Ability to work efficiently under deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards
- Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to evolving fashion trends or project requirements
