CBA Electrical u0026 Security Systems
Vancouver
THE COMPANY
Our mission
At CBA, our mission is to make sure that when something goes wrong at a customer's home or business, the system we installed actually does its job.
Since 1993, we’ve installed, monitored, and serviced security systems for 150,000 homes / businesses in Greater Vancouver.
The problem we're solving
Home security in this city has split into two bad options.
At one end, a customer buys a box from Ring or at Best Buy, mounts the camera themselves at the wrong height with the wrong field of view, and finds out it doesn't work on the one night it matters.
At the other end, they sign a three-year contract with a national provider, a subcontractor they've never met shows up in a two-hour window, rushes the install, and nobody comes back.
Meanwhile, roughly 9 out of 10 alarm activations in Vancouver are false, the City can suspend a permit after three of them in a year, and a sloppy install is usually the reason.
There's almost nobody left in the middle: a real local company with experienced technicians who design the system properly, install it with care, and are still here to fix it in year six.
What you’ll be working on
Residential and light-commercial security systems across Greater Vancouver:
- Outdoor and indoor cameras - standard cameras, spotlight cameras, floodlight cameras, doorbell cameras.
- Intrusion alarm systems - window and door sensor, garage door sensor, motion sensor, motion and glass-break detection, sirens, panic buttons.
- Access control systems - panels, keypads, fobs, electronic locks, intercom, and gate entry.
- Environmental alarms and smart home integration - lighting, thermostats, garage, smoke detection, heat detection, carbon monoxide detection.
THE ROLE You'll run installation and service calls, with 30-40 jobs per week on average across Greater Vancouver (eg Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, Coquitlam).
You’ll be working out of main office at 9026 Oak Street, Vancouver.
Some examples of problems you might be working on:
- An older customer who is nervous about technology and needs to genuinely understand their system before you leave. If they can't arm it confidently, the install isn't finished.
- A customer has cameras at the front door but still can't see who took her Amazon package. Where does the camera actually go, and what's the trade-off between coverage and glare?
- A strata condo won't allow surface-mounted wiring or exterior drilling. Design a system that meets the rules and still protects the unit.
- A panel was installed by another company in 2009, no documentation, half the zones mislabelled, and the customer wants it modernized without tearing the house apart.
- A system that false-alarms every third week.
Find out whether it's a bad contact, a pet, a spider on a sensor, or a customer who was never properly trained, and fix the root cause.
Some areas you’ll own:
- The quality of every installation job that leaves your hands - workmanship, labelling, testing, and cleanup.
- The walkthrough and the customer handover - you teach them the system and ensure they understand how to operate it.
- Documentation for record keeping - what you installed, where, and customer details that allow for a more personalized customer support in the future.
Some areas you’ll contribute to:
- Quoting and pricing.
- Scheduling and dispatch.
- Anything you haven't been trained on yet. You'll have senior technicians to learn from and collaborate with, especially for more complex jobs.
Compensation and benefits:
Compensation
- Hourly rate: from $25/hr - $40/hr depending on licence and experience (plus overtime eligibility).
Benefits:
- Extended health and dental after 90 days.
- 10 days paid vacation annually, rising to 15 days after 3 years.
- 5 paid sick days annually, plus all BC statutory holidays.
- We pay for your licence - application, criminal record check, renewals, and the training toward your full SkilledTradesBC certification.
- Your own home gets protected too - every employee gets a discount on their own CBA system.
- Get a 5-star review and there's a bonus in it for you - good work gets noticed and paid.
ABOUT YOU
What we're looking for:
- A valid BC driver's licence and a clean driving record - you'll be driving a company van to/from jobs every week.
- Eligible to hold a BC security worker licence, eligible to work in Canada, and able to pass a criminal record check.
- Have done low-voltage, alarm, CCTV, access control, fire alarm, structured cabling, telecom, AV or car audio work.
- Comfortable on a ladder, in an attic, in a crawlspace, and with a drill in your hand.
- Able to write a explicit, legible service note.
- Able to read a room as well as a schematic. You're in people's homes, around their kids and their pets, and how you leave the place matters as much as whether the system works.
- Able to communicate effectively with customers - if the job needs a second visit or if you made a mistake, you say so and do what it takes to deliver great customer experience.
- Take some pride in how the work looks - hidden wires, clean holes, no dust left behind.
Some nice-to-haves:
- Holds a BC security worker licence.
- Speaks Cantonese or Mandarin alongside English - a real advantage with a large part of our customer base.
FAQ Do I need a security licence to apply?
No. You can start on an under supervision security alarm installer licence, which doesn't require prior training, and we will provide support for the application. Over roughly two years of supervised work you build toward the full SkilledTradesBC Certificate of Qualification.
Where are you located, and how far will I be driving?
We're based in (address) and work across Greater Vancouver (eg Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, Coquitlam). Most days you'll be driving to job sites that are within 30-40 minutes of the office.
Do I need my own truck or tools?
No. You will be provided a company van, fuel card, and all major tools are provided. But you’re welcome to bring your own hand tools if you prefer them.
How is the work-life balance?
Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 18:00pm. Overtime exists in this trade, but is rare, and we pay it properly. Rest assured, we don't book jobs at 4:30pm on a Friday that we know will run to 8pm.
Is the work steady year-round?
Yes. Installation and service work continues through the winter, so there's no seasonal layoff. In 33 years since our founding, we've never laid off a technician for lack of work.
Will this company still be here in 3 years?
We are family-owned and locally run. We're profitable, we carry no debt, and we're not owned by a private equity firm that might sell the business next year.
What is the culture like?
Small, direct and low-drama. A team of experienced technicians, an owner you talk to in person, and no layers of management. If something's broken (eg a process, a tool, a supplier) you say so and it usually changes that week. We're a crew that does careful work and goes home on time.
How does the interview process work?
3 steps, and we tell you where you stand within 48 hours of each one.
- Initial screening call, 30 minutes. What you've done, what you want, what we pay. No trick questions.
- In-depth conversation, 45 minutes. Your hands-on practical knowledge.
- Ride-along for half a day on real jobs (paid), so you can see the work and the crew before you decide. Then references, and an offer within 3 business days.
Pay: $25.00-$40.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
