Quality Cedar Products
Location: Bancroft, ON
Flexible Remote or Hybrid
Job Type: Full time Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 40 hours/week
Salary: $60,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
About Quality Cedar Products:
Quality Cedar Products is Ontario's leading supplier of Western Red Cedar lumber, serving customers throughout Ontario's retail market while also supplying wholesale customers across the United States.
We are a growing, owner-operated company based in the Bancroft area with an expanding customer base and opportunities in both domestic and international markets. While our core business is currently focused on Ontario and the United States, we are also beginning to expand into international export markets.
We have built our reputation around quality products, dependable service and strong relationships with our customers, reflected in our highly rated online reviews and growing reputation within the industry.
As the company continues to grow, we are looking to add an experienced accounting professional who can grow with us and play an important role in building the financial systems and processes that will support the next stage of the business.
This is an opportunity to work directly with company ownership and have a meaningful impact on a growing Canadian business. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take significant ownership of the accounting and financial administration function and help shape how that function evolves as the company grows.
We offer a flexible work environment, with the position based either from our Bancroft office, remotely, or through a combination of both.
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Accounting & Finance Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of Quality Cedar Products and its affiliated holding corporation.
The ideal candidate will have strong practical accounting experience and be comfortable working independently while providing financial guidance to company ownership.
A CPA designation is strongly preferred and will be compensated accordingly, but it is not a requirement. We are equally interested in candidates with substantial hands-on accounting experience who can demonstrate the ability to manage the responsibilities of the position.
This position will work directly with the company's owners and will initially work alongside our existing external CPA firm, with the long-term goal of bringing as much of the company's accounting and financial administration in-house as practical.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage the day-to-day accounting functions for Quality Cedar Products and its affiliated holding corporation
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Prepare and issue customer invoices
- Process vendor invoices and payments

- Develop and improve accounting systems and processes as the company grows
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss statements
- Prepare Balance Sheets
- Prepare Cash Flow statements
- Prepare other financial reports and analysis as required
- The successful candidate will be expected to not only produce reports, but also help ownership understand what the numbers mean and provide practical financial insight.
HST & Tax Compliance
- Prepare and file HST returns
- Ensure appropriate HST treatment of company transactions
- Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation
- Monitor filing deadlines and ensure remittances are completed on time
- Provide guidance to management regarding HST and other accounting-related matters
- Work with the company's external CPA firm as required
- Help identify opportunities to improve the company's tax and accounting processes
Payroll
- Manage payroll administration for approximately 12 employees
- Process regular payroll
- Manage payroll remittances and source deductions
- Complete year-end payroll requirements and T4 preparation
- Manage vacation and statutory holiday calculations

- Coordinate with the external CPA firm on corporate year-end filings
- Ensure corporate and accounting deadlines are tracked and met
- Work toward bringing an increasing portion of the company's year-end and corporate accounting functions in-house

What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small-to-medium-sized business workplace
- CPA designation is strongly preferred but not required
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting practices
- Experience with HST and payroll
- Experience preparing financial statements and management reports
- Experience with corporate accounting and year-end processes
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and reconciliations
- Experience with QuickBooks
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- High level of integrity and discretion
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to business owners and non-accounting personnel
The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who wants more than simply processing transactions.
We are looking for someone who can become a trusted financial resource for the owners of the business — someone who can identify issues before they become problems, keep us informed about our financial position, ensure deadlines are met, and provide practical guidance when financial or accounting decisions need to be made.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of your responsibilities, working independently and building systems that make the company's accounting function more organized and efficient.
A CPA who wants a hands-on role within a growing private company would be an excellent fit. However, an experienced accountant without a CPA designation who can demonstrate the required knowledge and ability is encouraged to apply.
Confidentiality & Trust
This position will have access to highly sensitive company information, including payroll records, banking information, financial statements, corporate information and other confidential business and personal information.
Exceptional discretion, integrity and confidentiality are essential requirements of this position.

- A collaborative, owner-operated work environment
Reporting Structure This position will report directly to the owners of Quality Cedar Products.
The successful candidate will work closely with ownership and the company's existing external CPA firm during the transition toward a more internally managed accounting function.
A Unique Opportunity
This position is an opportunity for the right accounting professional to become an significant part of the company's long-term growth.
As Quality Cedar Products continues to expand across Ontario, the United States and eventually international markets, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help build and manage the financial infrastructure that supports that growth.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, thinks proactively, and wants to have a meaningful role in a growing business — not simply someone who wants to process numbers from a distance.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your accounting experience, including your experience with QuickBooks, HST, payroll, financial reporting and corporate year-end accounting.
We are particularly interested in understanding the level of responsibility you have previously had for managing the accounting function of a business. Quality Cedar Products is committed to finding the right person for this position.
