Our client is an established transportation and logistics leader providing integrated transportation, warehousing, distribution, and related supply chain solutions across North America. Its warehousing platform supports a range of customer requirements, including dedicated and shared-user facilities, short- and long-term storage, cross-docking, inventory management, value-added services, and technology-enabled supply chain visibility.
As the organization continues to expand its enterprise customer base, it is seeking a commercially minded Senior Director, Business Development – Warehousing to lead strategic account growth, develop new warehousing opportunities, and strengthen long-term customer partnerships.
This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced sales or commercial leader who can translate sophisticated warehousing and logistics capabilities into compelling customer solutions. The successful candidate will combine executive-level relationship management with strong operational, financial, and strategic acumen.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this role serves as the senior commercial owner for a portfolio of major national and enterprise customers. The successful candidate will develop account-growth strategies, expand the use of integrated warehousing and logistics services, strengthen retention, and align customer requirements with the organization’s operational capabilities.
The role will engage with customers on a broad range of warehousing solutions, including dedicated and shared-user operating models, multi-site distribution networks, big-box warehousing, cross-dock programs, facility expansions, relocations, greenfield start-ups, and customer transitions.
Working closely with Sales, Operations, Transportation, Warehousing, Customer Service, Finance, and Executive Leadership, the Senior Director will act as an important voice of the customer. They will help shape service development, innovation, productivity improvements, and long-term growth priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic growth plans for major national and enterprise accounts, including revenue, profitability, retention, and account-expansion objectives
- Identify opportunities to expand customer relationships through dedicated warehousing, shared-user facilities, short- and long-term storage, cross-docking, distribution, transportation, and value-added logistics services
- Build trusted relationships with senior decision-makers and executive stakeholders across customer organizations
- Lead regular business reviews that communicate service performance, productivity trends, operational improvements, emerging needs, and opportunities for expanded partnership
- Translate customer supply chain requirements into commercially viable warehousing solutions,
including facility footprint, storage profile, throughput requirements, labour assumptions, service levels, technology needs, and implementation considerations
- Support the development of customer-specific business cases, proposals, RFQs, pricing models, and solutions involving warehousing, transportation, international freight forwarding, and integrated logistics services
- Partner with Operations and Finance to assess customer profitability, cost-to-serve, resource requirements, facility economics, and quote-to-cash efficiency
- Identify opportunities to improve customer outcomes through LEAN methodologies, warehouse slotting, labour productivity, strategic door management, process standardization, WMS visibility, automation, and data-driven performance management
- Lead commercial discussions involving pricing, renewals, service agreements, contract extensions, operating requirements, and other strategic negotiations
- Serve as the senior point of escalation for significant customer concerns, coordinating timely resolution across internal teams and ensuring clear rules of engagement
- Present the organization’s capabilities in inventory control, warehouse management, real-time reporting, quality assurance, fulfillment, shipping and receiving, and value-added services
- Monitor warehousing, transportation, and supply chain trends to identify market opportunities and sources of competitive differentiation
- Establish and maintain reporting on revenue growth, profitability, retention, customer engagement, pipeline development, service performance, and account risk
- Maintain accurate forecasts and conduct regular portfolio reviews to identify opportunities, risks, operational requirements, and resource needs
What You Bring
- Experience developing and executing account-growth strategies in transportation, logistics, warehousing, contract logistics, 3PL, supply chain, or a related sector
- 10+ years of progressive experience managing strategic, national, or enterprise accounts
- A demonstrated record of managing large enterprise relationships and delivering sustained revenue, retention, and profitability growth
- Solid understanding of warehousing and distribution models, including dedicated and shared-user facilities, multi-site operations, cross-docking, storage solutions, facility transitions, and value-added services
- Experience selling or developing solutions involving warehouse management systems, real-time reporting, inventory control, automation, LEAN productivity, labour optimization, or other technology-enabled operational improvements
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience with complex pricing, contract negotiations, customer profitability, cost-to-serve analysis, and business-case development
- Ability to understand operational metrics such as throughput, order-fill rates, on-time pickups and deliveries, labour costs per pallet or case, inventory accuracy, service levels, and facility utilization
- Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and lead strategic initiatives without relying solely on direct authority.
- A consultative, customer-focused approach and the ability to translate operational capabilities into compelling business solutions
- Familiarity with CRM platforms, pipeline management, account planning, forecasting, and performance reporting
- Post-secondary education in Business, Sales, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout Canada and the United States as required
