About Our Client

Our client is a rapid-growing, high-impact InsurTech company redefining commercial insurance for businesses across Canada. Combining advanced technology with deep industry expertise, they build digital-first platforms that simplify coverage for thousands of customers. Recognized consistently as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in North America, they foster a culture rooted in ownership, continuous innovation, and engineering excellence.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Developer, Data to join our client's Data Engineering team. In this platform-first role, you will own the systems and infrastructure that power our entire data ecosystem—including warehouse infrastructure, CI/CD automation, developer environments, data quality frameworks, and data catalogs.

Working closely with Tech Leads and Data Analysts, you will ensure data arrives in our cloud data warehouse reliably, manage infrastructure as code, and build a foundation that enables the broader data team to ship features quickly, reliably, and securely without accumulating operational debt.

Main Responsibilities

Internal Tooling & Automation: Build and maintain internal tooling for the data team, including CLIs, automation scripts, observability dashboards, and developer productivity tools.

Infrastructure as Code: Define and manage cloud data warehouse infrastructure via Terraform—including provisioning, access controls, resource monitors, and performance tuning.

Data Platform & Products: Contribute to the development and deployment of conversational analytics products by supporting underlying infrastructure, CI/CD,

and production readiness.

Data Quality Frameworks: Own data quality infrastructure by building and maintaining frameworks for testing, monitoring, and alerting on data freshness, completeness, and correctness.

Data Catalog Management: Extend, maintain, and improve data catalog tooling (e.g., OpenMetadata) to ensure data assets are documented, discoverable, and trusted.

CI/CD & Local Workflows: Build and maintain CI/CD workflows for dbt model deployment, schema validation, data quality checks, automated testing, and reproducible local development environments.

Security & Architecture: Collaborate with technical leadership to design scalable data platform architecture with a security-first mindset, ensuring access patterns, credentials, and audit logging are codified and version-controlled.

Engineering Standards: Perform code reviews, ensure pull requests meet acceptance criteria, and uphold high engineering standards across the platform codebase.

Must Haves

Data Warehousing & Infrastructure: 5–8 years of overall experience in software engineering, with significant experience managing and optimizing cloud data warehouses (specifically Snowflake).

Programming Languages: 5–8 years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript.

Python experience is also highly valued.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience using Terraform to manage and automate cloud infrastructure.

Data Ingestion & Transformation: Familiarity with data ingestion tools (e.g., Fivetran, Airbyte) and transformation tools (e.g., dbt).

Software Engineering Fundamentals: Strong discipline around version control, CI/CD workflows, automated testing, code reviews, and reproducible builds.

Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a track record of collaborating across cross-functional technical teams.

Education: Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Haves

- Advanced Warehouse Administration: Deep experience with Snowflake administration, including RBAC, resource monitors, cost optimization, and query performance tuning.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Data Catalog & Observability: Hands-on experience with data catalog tools (OpenMetadata, DataHub, Atlan) and data observability platforms

Position Details & Total Rewards

- Target Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 Base Salary per year (commensurate with experience).
- Work Model: Remote within Canada
- Flexible health and dental plans for families
