Senior Software Engineer – Backend / Distributed Systems

Remote – Canada / US | PST hours preferred

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a growing technology company building a high-scale, data-intensive platform.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role for someone who can own complex backend systems end-to-end — from architecture and technical design through implementation, scalability, and production reliability. You’ll also work with modern AI-assisted software development tools, using AI coding agents as part of the engineering workflow while maintaining a high bar for code quality and system design.

What You’ll Do

- Lead the architecture and implementation of major backend systems and product features
- Own technical design for complex projects from concept through production
- Build scalable, reliable, high-performance distributed systems
- Solve complex technical and architectural challenges
- Review and validate AI-generated code and use AI coding tools in production development workflows
- Make architectural decisions with consideration for scalability, performance, reliability, and business impact
- Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards and technical direction
- Collaborate closely with product and cross-functional teams

What We’re Looking For

- 5–15 years of software engineering experience, with a strong backend focus
- Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar
- Experience building or supporting high-scale, data-heavy platforms




- Demonstrated ownership of the architecture and technical design of a major system or product area
- Hands-on experience building and shipping production software using AI coding tools/agents
- Experience working in a growth-stage technology workplace
- Strong communication skills and a product-minded engineering approach
- Able to work remotely within Canada or the United States; PST availability is preferred

Nice to Have

- EDI or B2B data integration experience
- Experience designing authentication and authorization systems such as SSO, OAuth, or RBAC
- Experience scaling enterprise-focused SaaS or technology platforms

Pay: $190,000.00-$225,000.00 per year
