Position Overview The Government of Ontario is seeking a Senior Systems Testing / QA Specialist with 10+ years of experience in software testing within enterprise-level IT environments and large-scale systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing comprehensive testing strategies across complex systems, including functional, integration, system, regression, user acceptance, performance, stress, load, accessibility, and non-functional testing.
The candidate will work closely with testing leads, IT leads, developers, business analysts, project managers, and other technical and functional stakeholders throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on testing strategies, test plans, testing tools, resources, and overall QA approaches.
- Plan, organize, and implement testing activities for large-scale systems in both GUI and non-GUI environments.

- Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ALM, Bugzilla, TestRail, Zephyr, or similar.
- Work closely with developers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools/frameworks such as:
- Selenium
- Postman
- OpenText UFT / Micro Focus
- TestComplete
- Cypress
- Other comparable automation tools
- Support integration of automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Perform API testing and backend validation.
- Develop and execute performance test scripts using JMeter, LoadRunner, or similar tools and analyze performance bottlenecks and scalability.
- Conduct AODA/accessibility testing and ensure compliance with applicable Ontario accessibility requirements.
- Validate data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across systems and databases.
- Perform backend/data validation and write queries for testing and data verification.
- Support data migration and transformation testing where required.
- Develop and manage robust test data strategies, including realistic test data generation, data privacy, and test environment management.
- Conduct basic security testing and collaborate with security specialists on more advanced security/penetration testing activities.
- Participate in UAT activities and provide support to business and technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, project managers, testing leads, and IT leads to clarify requirements and ensure quality.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Maintain detailed documentation of testing results, test coverage, defects, quality metrics, and outcomes.
- Provide input into user manuals and release notes.
- Ensure testing processes follow applicable QA standards, compliance requirements, and structured methodologies

Mandatory Qualifications & Must-Have Skills
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
- 10+ years of experience in software testing within enterprise-level IT environments and large-scale systems.
- Hands-on experience with both manual testing and automated testing tools/frameworks.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall testing methodologies.
- Extensive experience with AODA testing and compliance, including knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and related standards/regulations.

Public Sector Experience – Preferred
- Previous Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public-sector experience is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with OPS quality assurance standards and practices is preferred.
Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a Senior QA/Test Specialist with 10+ years of enterprise testing experience, strong hands-on exposure to both manual and automated testing, and demonstrated expertise in Selenium/Postman, JMeter/LoadRunner, JIRA/Azure DevOps, SQL/Oracle, Azure/AWS, CI/CD, AODA compliance, and end-to-end systems testing.
Candidates with previous Ontario Public Service/public-sector experience and strong experience working in large, complex environments will be highly relevant.
