The Stair Shoppe
Calgary
Job Summary
About Us The Stair Shoppe has been building quality prefabricated stairs for Calgary contractors and builders for 38 years. We're a small, established operation that specializes in fast turnaround - 95% of our orders ship within one week. We use CNC technology and skilled craftsmanship to deliver stairs that meet exact specifications every time.
The Role
We're looking for a Shop Foreman to lead our production team. This isn't a corporate middle-management position - you'll be running the shop floor, operating equipment alongside your team, teaching crew members, and ensuring orders go out on time and to spec. In a small company like ours, your voice matters and you'll have real input on how things run.
What You'll Do
- Lead and train a small production team on equipment operation and quality standards
- Run CNC equipment and other machinery (we'll train you on our specific systems or send you to school)
- Work with CAD drawings daily to set up jobs and ensure accuracy
- Troubleshoot production issues and keep workflow moving efficiently
- Maintain equipment and ensure safety standards are met
- Collaborate directly with ownership - no layers of bureaucracy
What You Need
- Previous shop management or supervisory experience in a woodworking/manufacturing environment
- Strong CAD knowledge (we use it constantly for stair designs and specs)
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn CNC programming (we'll provide training/schooling)
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and handle physical work
- Class 5 driver's license
- Solid English communication skills
- "Amazing math skills" isn't just HR talk - you need to be comfortable with measurements, calculations, and dimensions
What We Offer
- 4-day work week - yes, really
- Full benefits package: extended health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage
- Training and education support for CNC programming and systems
- Small team environment where you're valued, not just a number
- 37 years of stability - we're not going anywhere
- Interesting, varied work with fast turnaround (satisfying to see projects completed quickly)
- Established client base with steady work flow
