Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

The Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the implementation of disability-related accommodations and services for SFU Students. CAL is responsible for upholding SFU's General Policy 26 ("Accessibility for Students with Disabilities") and also advocates on issues related to diversity, educational equity, and academic achievement. The CAL Accessible team has key student-facing and instructor-facing responsibilities to ensure that SFU upholds its legal obligation to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities.

The team administers over 10,000 unique accommodated exams per year and works collaboratively with Disability Access Advisors and Exam Assistants to create an inclusive environment during the accommodated exam-writing experience. In addition to accommodated exams, the team is responsible for coordinating and implementing in-class accommodations to support students in lectures. Our team values trust, open communication, creative problem-solving,

and shares a commitment to improving the student experience.

About the Role The Specialist, Accessible Exam Services has key student-facing responsibilities to ensure that SFU upholds its legal obligation as per the Accessible British Columbia Act and GP 26 to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities and an inclusive workplace during the accommodated exam-writing experiences. This role is responsible for ensuring the details of each accommodated exam are tracked, implemented and monitored. Focusing on experiential learning and improving CAL's visibility, accessibility, and understanding of mandate, this role will actively participate as part of the CAL Exams Team in researching, creating and delivering student-focused and instructor-focused exam communications and education.

The Specialist, Accessible Exam Services will also take an active role and demonstrate initiative in supporting the Manager, Accessible Exam Services, with recruiting, training and supervision of Exam Assistant Invigilators.

We are looking for a resourceful, energetic and highly organized individual who is a natural leader and is passionate about equity for students with disabilities. Our ideal candidate will have solid competencies in attention to detail, priority-setting, and problem-solving in a consistently high-output setting. They will be able to communicate with vulnerable, diverse populations using compassion, confidence and sensitivity.

We offer a dynamic and multifaceted work environment that is very team-based, and where no two days are the same.
