Responsibilities

Vacancy Status: Existing position Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Education, the Teacher Education Program Coordinator (French) in the École des sciences de l’éducation (ÉSÉ) is responsible for all aspects of ensuring the smooth administrative functioning of the unit, with particular attention to student practicum placements in the ÉSÉ. As a member of the unit’s administrative team, the Program Coordinator provides leadership through working with students, staff, faculty members, the Dean’s office and external stakeholders.

Responsible for all aspects of student practicum placements

- In collaboration with the School Director and the Program Coordinators, prepare the annual timetable for courses and practica.
- Organize and supervise all aspects of the practicum component of the program and help to define its goals and objectives; recruit host/associate schools and host/associate teachers verifying their suitability; set up and monitor all practicum placements.
- In collaboration with the Placement Committee, authorize any necessary changes to individual placements and/or resolve problems.
- In collaboration with the Program Coordinator and School Director, plan the assignment of faculty advisors and coordinate faculty supervisory duties.

Responsible to provide administrative assistance
- Assist in the coordination and organization of accreditation related meetings and activities.
- Organize all meetings with host/associate teachers, faculty advisors, student teachers, and of the Practicum Committee.
- Assist in the business of the École d’ éducation council, including taking and maintaining accurate minutes.
- Help to organize various special events and activities and promote and set up employment fairs for Faculty of Education students and facilitate and participate in on-campus recruitment.

Evaluation and correspondence
- Collect and file evaluative reports.
- In collaboration with the Placement Committee, provide for counseling and appropriate follow-up and assistance in the schools.
- Prepare statistical summary reports.
- Collect,



collate and summarize data related to accreditation standing and reporting of the unit, including management of the unit’s database interface with the Ontario College of Teachers.
- Answer questions about the program, striving for good public relationships and carry out all new suggested initiatives.
- Keep practicum handbooks and evaluation forms up to date and assist the Director in the preparation, mailing, and proper designation of all materials.
- Inform the Director of budgetary needs related to placements and ensure their timely payment.
- Maintain the ongoing quality of the program through regular assessment and evaluation of goals.
- Handle relevant correspondence and meet with education students as required and direct back to Program Coordinator for academic matters.
- Maintain, or commit to creating, an equitable diverse and inclusive working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- Honours undergraduate degree (4 years) in a related field, Bachelor of Education degree preferred.
- Three(3) to five (5) years of related experience.
- Training or equivalent experience in MS Word, Excel, database programs (such as Microsoft Access or ePLC Associate Teacher Placement Software), LUnet, Novell, and G-suite applications;
- Knowledge relating to the education systems in Ontario;
- Understanding of the socio-linguistic mandate of the Francophone schools in Ontario;
- Knowledge of current Ministry of Education regulations, Ontario College of Teachers accreditation requirements, MAESD policies, WSIB procedures, Police Check policies (VSS), School Board policies, requirements and procedures for Health and Safety Training;
- Ability to collaborate, conceptualize, synthesize, direct, analyze, organize, evaluate,



and reflect;
- Must possess a valid driver’s license;
- Knowledge of Laurentian University policies, procedures, and practices is considered an asset;
- Excellent problem-solving skills, decision making skills, multitasking abilities, people skills, effective communication skills;
- Robust intercultural competencies.
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
