Role Description The Tool and Die Maker is a full-time, on-site role located in Markham, ON, responsible for building, maintaining, and repairing tooling used in metal stamping operations. Day-to-day tasks include reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to fabricate, assemble, and fit dies, jigs, and fixtures to accurate tolerances. The role involves operating and setting up conventional and CNC machines (such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM equipment), performing troubleshooting on tooling issues, and implementing adjustments to improve part quality and production efficiency.

The Tool and Die Maker will conduct preventative maintenance on tools, ensure safe operation of equipment, and collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to support continuous improvement and timely delivery.



Accurate documentation of work performed, adherence to safety and quality standards, and proactive communication regarding tooling performance and required repairs are key aspects of this position.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated proficiency in tool and die making, including building, fitting, and repairing stamping dies, jigs, and fixtures for automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Strong skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T;, and specifications, with the ability to work to tight tolerances.
- Hands-on experience operating conventional and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, EDM), including set-up and routine maintenance.
- Knowledge of metal stamping processes, materials, heat treatment, and tooling design principles relevant to progressive and transfer dies.
- Competence in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges) and following established quality inspection procedures.
- Solid problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose tooling and production issues and implement practical, timely corrective actions.
- Commitment to safe work practices, familiarity with workplace health and safety regulations, and adherence to company safety policies.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams and support continuous improvement initiatives.
