About Niagara Port Services
Niagara Port Services (NPS) provides rail, transload, warehouse and industrial logistics services to customers throughout Ontario.
Our Thorold operation is growing, and we are looking for a dependable, safety focused Transload / Warehouse Operator to join our team.
This is a hands-on industrial position involving the movement of customer products between railcars, trucks, containers, warehouses and outdoor storage areas.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working around rail operations, heavy equipment, forklifts, trucks and industrial materials.
The Opportunity
As a Transload / Warehouse Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently handling customer products as they move through the NPS Thorold facility.
A significant part of this position will involve loading and unloading railcars and transferring product between rail, truck, container and warehouse operations.
This is not a traditional warehouse-only position.
You will work directly in the terminal environment and may be involved in:

Key Responsibilities
Rail Transloading
- Load and unload customer products from railcars.
- Perform rail-to-truck, rail-to-container, and rail-to-warehouse transloading operations.
- Safely handle palletized, bagged, packaged, and other industrial commodities.
- Prepare railcars and work areas for loading and unloading in accordance with NPS procedures.
- Assist with railcar inspections and report damage, defects, or unsafe conditions.
- Work safely around active rail operations, tracks, railcars, and locomotives.
- Coordinate transload activities with NPS supervision.
- Accurately record railcar numbers, product quantities, and loading/unloading activities.
Forklift & Material Handling
- Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Move products between railcars, trucks, containers, warehouses, and staging areas.
- Complete required pre-use inspections of forklifts and other equipment.
- Operate equipment within established capacity and safety requirements.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, vehicles, rail equipment, and other workplace hazards.
- Report equipment defects, mechanical issues, or safety concerns immediately.
Warehouse & Container Operations
- Load and unload trailers and containers.
- Strip and load containers.
- Receive, stage, store, and ship customer products.
- Organize warehouse, staging, and outdoor laydown areas.
- Maintain accurate inventory and product counts.
- Verify products against shipping and receiving documentation.
- Assist with palletizing, wrapping, staging, and securing loads.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient warehouse and transload area.
General Operations
- Assist with daily terminal and transload operations as required.
- Complete required operating, inspection, and production documentation.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, truck drivers, and rail personnel.
- Follow NPS safety procedures, operating standards, and customer-specific requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and equipment qualification programs.
- Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
- Perform other duties related to rail, transload, warehouse, and terminal operations as required.

Required
- Previous experience in a warehouse, industrial, manufacturing, logistics or material-handling environment.
- Forklift operating experience.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and railway operations.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical work throughout the shift.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Rail / Transload Experience – Robust Asset Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
- Loading or unloading railcars.
- Rail transloading.
- Industrial terminals.
- Container loading and unloading.
- Bulk or packaged commodity handling.
- Truck loading and unloading.
- Industrial forklift operations.
- Working around locomotives and railway equipment.
- Warehouse inventory and shipping/receiving.
Additional Assets
- Forklift certification.
- WHMIS training.
- Experience operating high-capacity forklifts.
- Experience with industrial material-handling equipment.
- Previous railway or terminal experience.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Experience with inventory or warehouse management systems.
Hours of Work The primary operation is expected to operate during regular weekday hours Monday to Friday; however, flexibility is required to support customer, rail and terminal requirements. Employees may be required to work:
- Occasional Afternoons
- Occasional Weekends
- Overtime when operationally required
- Additional hours during peak customer or rail activity
Scheduling will be based on customer requirements and terminal operations.
Safety
Safety is a fundamental part of the NPS operation.
Every employee is expected to:
- Follow all NPS safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Complete equipment inspections before use.
- Follow safe rail and material-handling practices.
- Maintain safe distances from moving rail equipment.
- Follow established procedures when working around railcars and tracks.
- Immediately report hazards, incidents, near misses, damaged equipment or unsafe conditions.
- Participate in required safety training and meetings.
Employees will be trained and qualified for the equipment and duties they are required to perform. Physical & Working Environment
This is an active industrial position.
The successful candidate must be comfortable with:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Repeated bending, reaching and material handling.
- Lifting and moving materials within established safe limits.
- Working around railcars, locomotives, trucks and forklifts.
- Working indoors and outdoors.
- Working in changing weather conditions.
- Working around industrial noise and dust.
- Wearing required PPE.
- Performing hands-on work throughout the shift.
