Animal Hospital of Windsor is a full-service veterinary hospital open 7 days a week, 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM, providing everything from wellness and preventive care to surgery and urgent and emergency medicine. As we enter an exciting period of expansion, we're looking for an experienced, licensed veterinarian to step into the role of Medical Director and help lead our diverse, dedicated team.
The Role The Medical Director is both a practicing clinician and the medical leader of the hospital. You'll carry a caseload of routine and emergency patients while setting clinical standards, guiding and mentoring our veterinary team, and working closely with ownership to shape the hospital's growth.
This position includes rotational clinical shifts across weekdays and weekends, with morning and evening hours available, balanced with dedicated time for leadership responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Medical Leadership
- Set and uphold standards of medical care, protocols, and best practices across the hospital
- Lead, mentor, and support associate veterinarians, technicians, and assistants
- Oversee case reviews, quality of care, and medical record standards
- Guide the development and training of clinical staff, including onboarding of new veterinarians
- Serve as the hospital's point of contact for CVO compliance and facility accreditation requirements
- Oversee controlled drug management, radiation safety, and other regulatory obligations
Clinical Practice
- Manage a caseload of wellness, medical, surgical, and emergency patients
- Assess, stabilize, and treat urgent and critical cases in a fast-paced workplace
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients about diagnoses, treatment options, and costs
Operations and Growth
- Partner with ownership and management on hospital expansion, new services, and equipment decisions
- Contribute to doctor scheduling, staffing plans, and clinical workflow improvements
- Help recruit and retain veterinary talent
- Foster a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive team culture
Qualifications
- DVM (or equivalent) degree
- Current licence in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO)
- Minimum [5+] years of small animal clinical experience; emergency experience strongly preferred
- Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience (medical lead, senior associate, or director role an asset)
- Strong clinical judgment and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication, conflict-resolution, and team-building skills
- Comfort leading within a diverse, multicultural team
- Interest in growing a practice and developing others
