The Welfare and Compensation Officer (WCO) is responsible for overseeing and managing Mount Olives compensation and benefits programs to ensure they are fair, affordable and are aligned with the mission and goals of the Church. This role includes designing, implementing and evaluating the Parish Welfare Program, ensuring legal & spiritual compliance as well as fostering an environment that promotes an affordable, equitable and balanced welfare assistance and compensation program for the Church. This position requires a heart for service, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to upholding the values of compassion and community within our church family.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Banking and Finance or any related Field.
Experience:
- Experience in compensation and benefits management, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Experience and/or training in Human Resource Management.
- Experience in advocacy, public policy, or a related field. This could include internships, volunteer work, or previous positions in nonprofit organizations, religious organizations, government, or public relations.
- Strong knowledge of compensation laws and benefits administration.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically.
- Strong communication, negotiation, analytical and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with people at all levels.
- Experience in church finance management and previous involvement Church Welfare programs will be an advantage.
- Fluency in multiple languages will be an advantage.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide emotional and spiritual support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances such as illness, bereavement, or other life challenges.
- Visit members of the congregation in hospitals, nursing homes, or their homes to offer comfort and companionship.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify individuals or families within the church community who may require assistance.
- Review background information, interview individual and families in order to obtain case history and prepare intake reports as well as identify relevant skills and strengths that can be tapped to resolve needy circumstances.
- Assist individuals or families to sort out options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance.
- Work closely with church leaders and other relevant committees to determine the most effective ways to provide support to meet identified needs.
- Assess and investigate availability of and eligibility for social benefits.
- Refer clients to other social services or assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care and other services.
- Counsel clients living in group homes and halfway houses, supervise their activities and assist in pre-release and release planning.
- Collaborate with community resources, social services, and other organizations to ensure the availability of necessary support services for individuals and families in need.
- Maintain an up-to-date database of available resources and services.
Crisis Intervention:
- Provide immediate assistance and support in crisis situations, such as natural disasters, accidents, or sudden financial hardships.
- Collaborate with emergency services and relevant authorities as needed.
- Advocate on behalf of individuals or families dealing with external agencies, ensuring fair treatment and access to necessary services.
- Keep the congregation informed about available support services, resources, and ongoing welfare initiatives.
- Mobilise, coordinate and supervise volunteer resources and activities.
- May maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation, improvement and research.
- As a full time staff the WCO will support the administrative staff in the day to day running of the Parish Office.
- Any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Parish Priest.
Job Types: Permanent, Full time Pay: $20.00 per hour
