The Youth Justice Support Worker is a frontline, relationship‑based support worker who walks alongside diverted youth aged 12–18 engaged in a community‑based youth justice support project - Reimagining Youth Justice Project. This role provides intensive, trauma‑informed, culturally protected wraparound services that stabilize youth, strengthen protective factors, and support accountability and reintegration.

The Support Worker ensures youth do not fall through service gaps by coordinating supports across justice, education, health, housing, and community systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Youth Engagement: Build trusting, strengths‑based relationships through consistent outreach, mentorship, and goal‑setting.
- Wraparound Case Navigation: Develop individualized support plans addressing housing, school, mental wellness, addictions, cultural connection, and justice requirements.
- Crisis Response: Provide stabilization, safety planning, and immediate support during crises such as homelessness, violence, or substance use.
- System Coordination: Work closely with counsellors, schools, shelters, Elders, and cultural mentors to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Restorative Justice Support: Prepare youth for restorative processes, support accountability plans, and help complete reparative actions.
- Cultural & Land-Based Programming: Connect youth to cultural mentors, on‑the‑land camps, ceremony, and identity‑building activities.
- Skill Building: Link youth to tutoring, trades exposure, employment readiness, and life‑skills development.




- Documentation: Maintain accurate case notes, progress summaries, and diversion compliance records.
- Family Engagement: Strengthen natural supports through communication, mediation, and caregiver involvement.
- Advocacy: Champion youth needs within systems and reduce barriers to participation.

Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in social work, child and youth care, justice studies, Indigenous studies, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with justice‑involved youth, high‑risk youth, or youth facing systemic barriers.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, and cultural safety approaches.
- Training or experience in trauma‑informed practice, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, or restorative justice.
- Strong crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and safety planning skills.
- Ability to collaborate across multiple systems and maintain strong community partnerships.
