Full-Time | Technical Lead

Vancouver Prosthetics and Orthotics is looking for an experienced and motivated Technical Lead to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced RTO or RTPO with a minimum of 5 years of experience who is ready to take on a leadership role while continuing to be actively involved in prosthetic and orthotic fabrication.

About the Position

- As our Technical Lead, you will play an important role in ensuring the technical department operates efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- You will work closely with our clinical team to coordinate workflow, manage job priorities, oversee quality control, and provide leadership and mentorship to junior technicians.
- This is a hands-on leadership position. We are looking for someone who enjoys both doing the work and helping others become better at it.

Key Responsibilities

Workflow & Job Priority Management

- Coordinate the daily workflow of the technical department.
- Establish and communicate job priorities based on patient needs, clinical requirements, deadlines, and available resources.
- Monitor jobs throughout the fabrication process and ensure appropriate timelines are maintained.
- Allocate work effectively across the technical team.
- Identify workflow challenges and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency.
- Communicate with clinicians regarding job status, priorities, technical considerations, and completion timelines.




- Help develop and maintain efficient systems for managing the technical workload.

Quality Control

- Maintain consistently high standards for the fabrication and finish of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Perform quality-control checks on completed devices prior to patient delivery.
- Identify technical or fabrication concerns and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Work collaboratively with clinicians and technicians to resolve technical issues.
- Help establish and maintain standardized fabrication and quality-control procedures.
- Promote a culture where quality and patient outcomes are always the priority.

Leadership, Training & Mentorship

- Provide day-to-day technical leadership and support to junior technicians.
- Teach and mentor junior technicians in fabrication techniques, materials, equipment, and best practices.
- Provide hands-on instruction and demonstrate appropriate technical procedures.
- Support junior technicians as they develop their skills, confidence, independence, and problem-solving abilities.
- Encourage a positive, collaborative, and respectful team environment.
- Identify opportunities for ongoing technical education and team development.

Hands-On Technical Work

- Continue to participate in the fabrication, modification, finishing, and repair of prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge to complex fabrication challenges.




- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions to clinicians and technicians.
- Stay current with new materials, technologies, fabrication methods, and industry developments.
- Promote safe and effective use of tools, machinery, and equipment.

What We're Looking For

- RTO or RTPO designation.
- Minimum 5 years of prosthetics and orthotics experience.
- Solid technical knowledge and fabrication skills.
- Excellent understanding of prosthetic and orthotic materials and manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing exceptional-quality devices.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience mentoring or training junior technicians is an asset.
- A natural ability to lead, teach, and support others.
- A positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a fun and collaborative workplace.
