We are searching for an experienced Public Health Nurse at our Lindsay office at Lakelands Public Health. Position Title: Public Health NursePosition Category: Temporary - Full-Time (Up to February 2027)Department: Clinical ServicesReports to: Manager, Clinical ServicesUnion: ONAWage: Hourly Wage 47.41 - 52.06Vacancy Type: ExistingHome Office: Lindsay Primary Duties and Responsibilities Summary of Duties As a member of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases department (VPD) of the Clinical Services Division, the VPD Nurse is accountable to Clinical Services Management for the implementation of the assigned Requirements of the Infectious and Communicable Diseases Prevention & Control Program Standard, Immunization Standard, and/or School Health Standard of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) 2021 and related protocols and guidelines including but not limited to the:Infection Prevention and Control ProtocolInfection Prevention and Control Complaint ProtocolInfection Prevention and Control Disclosure ProtocolInfectious Diseases ProtocolInstitutional/Facility Outbreak Management ProtocolSexual Health and Sexually Transmitted/Bloodborne Infections Prevention and Control ProtocolTuberculosis Prevention and Control ProtocolVaccine Storage and Handling ProtocolImmunization for Children in School and Child Care Settings ProtocolSubstance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction GuidelineOntario Public Health Standards and Protocols and other duties as assigned by CDPC Management.All Registered Nurses employed by Lakelands Public Health (LPH) are required to maintain competency in immunization and participate in clinics as required.The VPD Nurse is expected to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to apply, adapt, choose and/or recommend changes to established methods, procedures or policies and/or to develop current procedures for approval to complete assigned work. The VPD Nurse will seek direction when solutions to problems are not apparent and/or are not within the intent of established practices including scope of practice.The position involves travel and variations of the working day. Responsibilities Administration and Human Resources Maintains knowledge of and complies with Health Unit and divisional policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
Maintains knowledge of and complies with the current collective agreement with the local bargaining unit of ONA. Participates in performance management. Advises Director/Manager of issues, requirements, and accomplishments. Generates regular, timely, complete and accurate records and reports to adequately reflect the implementation of the assigned program areas, and reports as required by Clinical Services Management and/or the MOH. In consultation with Clinical Services members and Management, may assist in the planning, preceptorship and evaluation of appropriate field placements for students in the health sciences/studies/promotion or nursing fields. Works in accordance with the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Consults with the Chief Nursing Officer on matters related to professional practice. Professional Provides information and advice to Clinical Services Management, Health Unit staff, community partners and the public regarding assigned program areas. Maintains competency by attending appropriate continuing education workshops, conferences and seminars, through private study and/or participation in networks as approved by Clinical Services Management, and in accordance with Regulated Health Professionals Legislation. Maintains effective working relationships with Health Unit staff, and personnel of other community agencies and volunteers. Liaises with Ministry Consultants, elected and appointed Officials, other health units, provincial organizations, and other agencies in consultation with Clinical Services Management and/or the MOH. Represents the Health Unit, division and/or assigned program areas on committees, boards and task forces as appropriate and as approved by Clinical Services Management. Acts as a resource person for the Health Unit and community in planning Infection Prevention and Control programs, activities and resources.
Provides consultation for the development of surveillance systems for generating baseline infection rates to detect outbreaks. Provides consultation to daycares, schools, private businesses, industry, and Health Unit divisions on the development of policies and procedures concerning infection prevention and control. Financial May recommend to Clinical Services members and Management the purchase of equipment, supplies and materials necessary for the assigned programs. In consultation with Clinical Services Management, may prepare budget for assigned projects, obtaining community partner input (and approval, if necessary) as appropriate. Required Qualifications Minimum Qualifications and Position Requirements EducationRequirements for employment as a Public Health Nurse as per Regulation 566 of the Health Protection and Promotion ActUniversity degree in Nursing Experience Nurses in the following assignments: Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Sexual Health Services, Vaccine Preventable Diseases and/or Harm Reduction Services:Community/public health and/or health promotion experience is an asset Other Proof of current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario Proficiency in the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the role of Public Health, Front Line Provider as defined by the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada Working knowledge of the OPHS Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle Current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check Proof of immunizations required LPH Satisfactory completion of probationary period (3 months ONA) Current CPR and First Aid (HCP level) or willingness to be certified at this level within two months of hire Clinical Services Nurses in the following assignments: Vaccine Preventable Diseases NurseSuccessful completion of Infection Control Certification is an asset Lakelands Public Health is committed to meeting the needsofpersons with disabilities under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) Standards.
