The Timmins Native Friendship Centre (TNFC) is an award-winning Friendship Centre in Timmins Ontario, Canada. TNFC provides services and programs to support the cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples and assist in the inclusion and participation in urban life. We strive to improve the quality of life for urban Indigenous peoples living in the Timmins area by providing intervention, direct services, advocacy, and support in the areas of health, education, employment and training, culture, recreation and social services.
The Akwe:go At Risk and the Akwe;go High Risk program worker/s will lead the delivery of the Akwe:go At Risk program and the Akwe;go High Risk, a culturally grounded initiatives supporting urban Indigenous youth aged 7-12. Using a strengths-based and inclusive approach, the program worker/s will create a safe and welcoming space where youth can thrive, develop positive self-identity, and strengthen their connections to culture, community, and peers.
The role/s include developing and delivering wholistic programming, maintaining accurate records, engaging in community outreach, and providing individualized supports to youth participants.
Responsibilities: Provide supervision of all Akwe:go AR and Akwe:go HR activities
Ensure there is a balance of approaches available to meet the needs of the children attending and participating in programming
To assist in children’s development through increasing life skills, safety and awareness and anti- violence training
Provide one-to-one support for youth, including peer counselling, action planning, and referrals to community resources.
Deliver group-based activities, including cultural teachings, leadership workshops, and recreational programming.
Facilitate family-based programming that strengthens family connections and promotes well-being.
Provide wrap-around services and a strengths-based action plan for each individual client;




Support 2SLGBTQQIA+ children and youth by creating safe and inclusive environments and offering programming.
Promotes the development of protocols and referral agreements as appropriate to meet the needs and outcomes of children.
Develop and distribute promotional materials to enhance program visibility.
Build partnerships with local Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations, schools, and institutions.
Ensure culture is seamlessly integrated into all aspects of service planning and delivery.
Maintain accurate records of participant information, activities, and outcomes using the Integrated Database.
Prepare and submit monthly/quarterly reporting.
Promote, by programming and personal example, the development of positive role models in the community
Qualifications: A post-secondary education diploma in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Child & Youth work, Health Services, and/or combination of an equivalent and relevant education.
Knowledge and experience working with urban Indigenous children and their families in a healing and reconciliation capacity.
Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with children their families as well as agencies and their personnel.
Must possess skills and experience in presenting educational workshops.
Knowledge of Friendship Centre movement, its aims and objectives
Knowledge of TNFC’s programs and services
Ability to provide a explicit Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Check
Must be licensed to drive a motor vehicle,



insured to do so in the Province of Ontario and have access to a safe and reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritize competing work demands to ensure effective, efficient and timely application of resources and services.
Self-motivated, able to schedule and prioritize work
Good judgment, ability and willingness to learn new skills
First Aid/CPR, Food Handler’s Certificate, and WHMIS
Ability to speak Cree and/or Ojibway and asset
Work Conditions: The successful candidate/s will be expected to work 35 hours per week, a minimum of 2 evenings per week, weekends, working outdoors, working with challenging direct service users, and travelling. The time of work hours will meet the demands of the position, the needs of the participants and the objectives of TNFC is the sole discretion of the organization

Starting salary range begins at Akwe:go AR 50,000-56,000 and Akwe:go HR 55,000-62,000 plus benefits. (salary conditional upon qualifications).
