Kensington Hospice
Kensington Hospice, a division of The Kensington Health Centre, is a not-for-profit, community organization providing care to individuals and their families at end-of-life, in a home-like environment. The dedicated team and volunteers of Kensington Hospice strive to support the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs experienced when approaching end-of-life. Bereavement after care is also offered to families. Services are delivered with the commitment to enhance quality of life at the end of life.
Job Overview
The Personal Care Attendant (PCA), reporting to the Executive Director, Community, Hospice and Palliative Care, provides direct personal care to the residents, in a manner that provides for independence, support, and safety.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the PCA will assist with all aspects of the residents' activities of daily living (ADLs) as required and will advance quality of care, safety and the experience of people we serve.
Please note that this will be a casual position.
Responsibilities
- Provides support to the residents to meet their needs and expectations as per the residents' individual plan of care including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, mobility, toileting, and meal assistance.
- Performs personal care consistent with Kensington Health's policies and procedures.
- Report and communicates all changes in resident status to the Registered Practical Nurse or to the Registered Nurse on duty.
- Promotes person-centered approaches to care by supporting a resident living workplace that is comfortable and safe and provides equitable, compassionate, individualized care and safeguarding of personal choice.
- Seeks out opportunities to maintain competency and to continuously learn, taking an active role in continuous quality improvement.
- Attends required training and education related to professional and skill development and keeps informed about new and relevant information related to best practices.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Interest in working with people at the end of life.
- Ability to work a shift rotation.
- Ability in any other language is an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to consistent attendance and punctuality.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- One year work experience in community care, palliative care, or hospice care (preferred).
Required Professional Designation/Certificate:
- Grade 12 certificate and Personal Support Worker certificate.
- Disciplinary-free record.
- Medical clearance declaring fitness to work.
