We are currently looking for aHead of Developmentto join our M Renewables team in Canada. The person filling this position wouldberesponsible forgrowing the renewables portfolio in Canada and the USA via acquisition/greenfieldingandprogressing projectsdevelopment activitiesthrough to construction. This role manages two key development verticals: Business development and project development.
Your role will encompass:
Responsible for growing the renewables portfolio inNorth America (focus onCanada)via acquisition/greenfieldingand progressingdevelopment activitiesthrough to construction.
Accountable for managing, leading, and supervisingmanagers and analystsof thetwosegmenetedDevelopment teams; Business Development (M&A;, partnerships, financial modeling) and Project Development (greenfielding,site control, permitting, environmental studies, interconnection, stakeholder relations, and regulatory matters).
Originate acquisition opportunities in North American markets by developing and cultivating relationships with bankers, advisors, developers, and key stakeholders and informthe Country Manager(Canada)of new opportunities, marketinsightsand trends
Leadtransaction processes from origination throughexecution and handoffs: bid submissions, deal structuring,valuation,coordinatingdue-diligencewith internal SMEs, financing,andexecuting definitive documents.
Prepare pitch books / investment memoranda and presenting the transaction’s investment thesis/rationale to theCountry Manager (Canada),the Regional Managing Director – North America,andMetlen'sinternal investment and risk committeesensuring clear communication of risks, opportunities,and strategic alignment.
Developand execute North American(focus on Canada)greenfield strategy to growrenewablesproject pipeline.
Ensure projects pipelinecontinuesadvancement of preconstruction activities on schedule, within budget, and with risks routinelyidentifiedand mitigated.
Provide guidance in negotiations and strategies with external parties (developers, PPA off-takers, co-investors, lenders, and government stakeholders) and internal stakeholders (EPC, PPA and Origination, O&M;, Project Finance, Legal, and Treasury/Accounting teams).
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies, local communities, developers, and investors to support project development strategy
Co-ordinate with internal and external stakeholders to define andvalidatetechnical, financial,taxationand structuring assumptions.
Participate in project handoffs from Business Development to Project Development and Project Development to EPCteams.
Participate in projectfinancingsanswering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.
Develop andmaintaininsightsonthe local renewable energy markets (regulations, trends, key players)
What you bring to the role:
- Minimum of10 years inthe power industry (preferably renewables)with experience ina similar senior management capacityoverseeingproject developmentand acquisition/investmentactivities
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering / Economics / Business or related fields. MBA or master’s degree in a numerate discipline would be a plus.
- Experience managing acquisition due diligence processes and interfacing activities with internal SMEs (EPC, legal, tax, finance, project finance, etc)
- Extensive knowledge ofNorth American renewable energy markets andutility-scale solar/wind/BESS project development including permitting, environmental, interconnection, regulatory, and stakeholder management.
- Experience developing greenfield strategies for solar/wind/BESS in new markets for targeted project siting and forming standard operating procedures to standardize execution.
- Track recordofleading the origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of utility-scale renewable energy acquisitions and/or similar energy investments in the North America market
Extensive personal network ofrenewablesenergy industry participants in the Canada and/or US markets
Strongleadership skills, critical thinking, and time management
Able to periodic regional travel
Strong analytical and problem-solving skillswhile managing multiple projects in a fast pacedenvironment
Diligent, execution-focused,ability to “think outside the box”,humbleleadership, team-player, and results-oriented
- Fluent English speaker. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is a plus
