Senior Planner

Senior Planners will support the Community Growth Division by initiating, leading and managing a wide variety of projects and tasks, including the development of reports, development tracking technology and data analytics.
The incumbents will:

- Formulate, recommend and implement major Provincial and Regional planning policies, related guidelines and programs
- Lead research and analysis of complex land use and transportation planning issues, performance monitoring, planning data and information interpretation/manipulation, and policy related issues
- Prepare comprehensive reports, work plans and terms of reference for specific strategic projects
- Advocate for, oversee, implement and support the Region's planning related technology projects, including but not limited to the Division's development tracking system and databases supporting land use or transportation planning initiatives
- Develop, evaluate and improve operating procedures for managing information related planning projects and development review processes




- Develop and deliver training on the departmental technology systems and databases
- Represent and advocate Regional planning interests at a senior level, including liaising with Area Municipalities and planning agencies in support of an array of planning projects and development initiatives
- Lead and coordinate project teams and complex projects
- Prepare and present planning evidence at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings on complex planning issues

The successful applicants will possess:
- A minimum four-year Honours bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography or related discipline, such as Geomatics
- GIS certification is considered an asset
- Full membership (or eligibility for membership) in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Ontario Qualified Planners Institute with the designation of Registered Skilled Planner
- Several years of relevant professional planning experience
- A demonstrated ability to manage and analyze complex planning related projects and issues, workflow processes and monitoring initiatives in a leading role
- Several years' experience leading complex or complicated planning projects, with an emphasis on policy review and formulation, transportation and/or growth management monitoring and analysis
- Working knowledge of the theories, purpose and principles of development tracking systems
- Knowledge of relevant acts, guidelines, and principles related to planning
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate/facilitate, build consensus and present information to varied audiences




- The ability to lead in a team environment and work with minimal supervision
- A focus on consensus-building and shared decision-making, as well as working collaboratively with diverse groups

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 10

This position is with Salary Grade 10 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:

- Start: $59.18 - Six Month: $62.46 - Job: $65.75
