Curatorial Assistant (Contract) THE NAVAL MUSEUM OF ALBERTA

THE ROLE

The Curatorial Assistant assists in research, storage, and handling of artifacts. Prepare acquisition-related documents and maintain an acquisitions register. Prepare worksheets, labels, and acquisition files for each artifact in accordance with museum standards and catalogue artifacts using museum software. Assist the curator with appraising donations and assigning a reasonable value as per Revenue Canada policies.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

College Diploma or certificate in museology, history or a related field, and two years of experience in a related field

OR

High school diploma AND two years of experience in Museology

OR

An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.

Experience

In museum practices in collections management and care of artifacts

In preparing and drafting reports

In historical research

In preventative conservation and storage for mixed media collections

Organizational knowledge, communication, innovation,



teamwork, adaptability, and creativity.

Ability to work with volunteers.

Knowledge

Of the activity, function, and organization of museums

Of military history, an asset

Of Canadian history and the history of the Royal Canadian Navy, an asset

Of automated collections management systems (TMS preferred), digital imaging systems,

graphics, and scanner software.

Reading: Functional

OTHER INFORMATION

Temporary, non-union, part-time, 52-week contract position, with potential for renewal.

This is an in office position with an assigned work location.

As this is a contract-for-services position, successful contractors will be required to have a GST number/account.
