The McGill University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) invite applications for a full-time position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, McGill University Health Centre and Chair of the McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. A tenure stream position may be available for the successful candidate.

The FMHS is comprised of over 5000 academic faculty, 970 staff members, 8,000 students, residents, and fellows, across six schools and two campuses. The FMHS research and teaching missions are conducted in collaboration with multiple teaching hospitals and health authority partners across Quebec. The Faculty is committed to uniting science and humanism to train outstanding health professionals and scientists who together lead the discovery, innovation, and care needed to improve the health of Quebeckers and communities around the world.
The MUHC is an adult and paediatric academic health centre affiliated with McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences with an international reputation for excellence in clinical care, research and education. It has a responsibility for tertiary paediatric and adult services for the University Integrated Health and Social Services Network of McGill (Réseau universitaire intégré de santé et de services sociaux McGill) across a vast territory of Québec in addition to providing comprehensive healthcare services to its local community. Patients receive care in English and French, and through interpretative services, a host of other languages as may be necessary to support the multicultural population it serves. The MUHC’s vision is to make a local to global impact by mobilizing together on sustainable, innovative practices, research, and teaching that deliver compassionate world-class complex care to people of all ages and promote a healthier planet.
The McGill Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is internationally recognized for its academic excellence, clinical leadership, and innovation in women’s health. Comprised of an interdisciplinary community of physicians, scientists, trainees, and support staff, the Department’s mission is to pursue excellence in comprehensive, patient-centered care, exceptional education, and the translation of knowledge, therapeutics, and technology. Our vibrant academic ecosystem encompasses approximately 100 clinical and research faculty members distributed across specialized divisions of Obstetrics, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecological Oncology, Urogynecology, and Basic Science Research. Operating across McGill’s premier teaching hospitals and research institutes, the Department boasts a distinguished track record of clinical excellence, innovation, education, and translational research across McGill’s teaching hospitals and research institutes, ultimately driving meaningful advancements in women’s health outcomes locally, nationally, and globally.
We are seeking a respected academic physician with demonstrated leadership in clinical care, education, research, and administration to lead one of Canada’s premier academic departments in women’s health. The successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Department’s academic, teaching, and research missions throughout the McGill network.
As Chair of the McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the Department’s teaching and research environments through strategic recruitment, mentorship, and faculty career development, support educational leaders in postgraduate and undergraduate medicine and research‑based graduate studies, and strengthen collaborations within the FMHS and across the University and its affiliated health network. As a leader within McGill’s ecosystem, the Chair will champion women’s health and will seek opportunities for synergy across sites and activities,
while supporting established and encouraging emerging areas of excellence.
The successful candidate is an energetic and thoughtful leader with demonstrated abilities to manage change, encourage excellence in complex, high‑stakes environments and able to foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose within the organization. Applicants for this position should have substantive experience in both research and teaching at a high level. Applicants should have experience in administration and leadership, with the ability to build effective teams, mentor colleagues, staff, and students, and engage with clinical and community partners, academic institutions, and governmental agencies.
