Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largest public charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campuses throughout the city. We offer educational programming through a distinctive FFCA Teaching and Learning Framework that has been refined and developed within the Alberta context for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Position Summary An Assistant Director of Transportation is required for a full-time continuing position beginning immediately.
Reporting to the Director of Transportation Services, the Assistant Director of Transportation supports the safe, timely, and costeffective operation of student transportation for all FFCA campuses. This role provides operational and administrative support related to route management, contractor coordination, and stakeholder communication. The Assistant Director of Transportation ensures students are transported safely and efficiently and supports the Director in delivering highquality transportation services across the division.
Responsibilities Bus Routes
In collaboration with the Director of Transportation Services, the Assistant Director of Transportation is responsible for:
Scheduling and adjusting bus routes using transportation logistics software to ensure safe, efficient routing.
Monitoring daily route performance and identifying modifications needed to address operational concerns, demographic changes, efficiency, or safety—implementing adjustments with Director approval.
Annual route creation and providing input.
Bus Contractor Coordination
Working with the bus contractor to support driver orientation, training, and operational readiness for all FFCA routes.
Meeting periodically with the carrier liaison to review routing details, stop locations, student conduct, and campusspecific considerations.
Coordinating annual bus evacuation procedures in partnership with the carrier.
Organizing fall startup driver meetings and ensuring drivers receive all required materials.
Communication & Liaison
Develop, maintain, and distribute of the FFCA Transportation Parent Handbook.
Reviewing handbook policies and expectations with the carrier, staff, and the broader FFCA community as needed.
Preparing and submitting incident/accident reports involving students, drivers, or buses.
Building and maintaining positive working relationships with the bus contractor, local municipalities, other school jurisdictions, and relevant regulatory bodies.
Promoting student transportation safety and awareness across all FFCA campuses.
Coordinating transportation communications at the direction of the Director, including:
School closures
Bus delays/cancellations
Route changes
Startofyear messaging for families
Supporting efficient rollout of registration and fee updates for FFCA families.
Administrative & Operational Support
Utilizing and maintaining all transportation software platforms (routing, GPS, registration/fee systems) to ensure accurate and current information.
Assisting Central Office staff and the Director of Transportation with:
Bus contractor payments
PPT/transportation grant data
Webpage updates for routes
Transportation fee assessments
Annual fee schedule reviews
PPT payment submissions
Contract management and procurement support
Board policy and administrative procedure updates
Boundary adjustments, grade reconfigurations, or campus changes affecting routes
Carrying out additional duties as required to support transportation operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Attributes High School Diploma
2-4 years of experience in a related field
Proficient in Microsoft / Office 365 / SharePoint Applications
Strong interpersonal skills
Robust verbal and written communications skills
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
Professional work ethic, maintains confidentiality
Strong organizational skills
Takes initiative and works independently
Knowledge of City of Calgary and interpreting city maps
Flexible
Desired Experience and/or Training Post-secondary diploma or degree
Familiarity with Athena, Powerschool, Rycor, School Messenger, Transportation logistics software and GPS routing platforms is an asset
Salary Range: $ 73,278 - $ 91,520 .
