Project Scientist - Assessment & Remediation

S2S Environmental Inc. (S2S) has an immediate opening for Project Scientists in the environmental Assessment and Remediation group at our Pickering office. The successful candidates will work as part of a multi-disciplined team of environmental professionals.

We are looking for individuals with solid interpersonal, technical and fieldwork skills, as well as basic knowledge of the Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) process, including Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs and/or Phase III ESAs/Remediation, along with applicable Ontario environmental regulations, Standards and guidelines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of duties including but not limited to:

Completing site assessments and inspections for Phase I/II ESAs and Remediations;

Collecting, logging and preparing environmental samples of soil, groundwater, indoor air, and soil vapour in the field;

Interacting with clients, in office representatives and third-party contractors during site investigations;

Managing and working with third-party contractors (i.e. contractors for drilling, excavation and remediation work) while on site;

Reviewing background and historical information in co-operation with Project Managers to understand site history and potentially environmental contaminating activities;

Travelling to various sites, within the Greater Toronto Area and beyond (occasionally out of province or multi-day projects requiring overnight stays);





Reviewing and interpreting laboratory analytical data for specific contaminants of concern;

Preparing technical reports, drawings, borehole logs and documenting findings and providing recommendations based on applicable federal, provincial and municipal regulations;

Interfacing with the other groups at S2S to gain a broad understanding of each project;

Contributing to the team and maintaining quality control; and

Developing and maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients.

As a successful candidate in this role, you will possess strong interpersonal skills, work well in team settings, and possess strong oral and written communication skills. Minimum qualifications for this position include:

Appropriate University Degree or College Diploma (Environmental or Sciences preferred);

Entry Level to two years of applicable field/consulting experience

Knowledge of environmental and health and safety regulations and guidelines

Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings;

Experience with AutoCAD and GIS is considered an asset;

Ability to perform field work and willingness to travel, generally within the province;

Highly effective oral communication and report writing skills;

Proficient with Microsoft Office software;

Strong organization skills and attention to detail; and

Commitment to professional excellence.

Geoscientist/Engineer In-Training Registration with the APGO/PEO is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a vehicle and a satisfactory driving record;

Able to work in extreme conditions, (i.e. hot, cold, and at heights); and

Willingness to obtain security clearances as required by our Clients
