Big Parts. Challenging Repairs. Precision Work That Matters.
Some machinists want to push a button and run the same part all day.
This isn't that job.
At Bridge Machine, we're looking for an experienced Manual Machinist who enjoys challenging work, understands the craft behind machining, and takes pride in figuring out how to repair, restore, and manufacture components properly.
Our work is varied. One day you may be machining a component for a hydraulic cylinder repair; the next, you're working with a large industrial part that requires you to think through the setup, determine the best approach, and work to tight tolerances.
Bridge Machine specializes in machining, hydraulic cylinder repair, manufacturing, and rebuild services for demanding industrial applications.
We're also proud to be part of the Boundary group of companies — a Canadian group of specialized industrial businesses serving the mining, heavy equipment, manufacturing, and resource sectors across Canada and around the world.
If you're a skilled manual machinist who still enjoys the art of machining, we'd like to meet you.
What You'll Do
As a Manual Machinist, you'll work on a variety of repair, rebuild, and manufacturing projects involving hydraulic and heavy industrial components.
You’ll be responsible for:
Setting up and operating manual lathes, mills, boring equipment, and other conventional machine tools
Machining new and repair components to specified dimensions and tolerances
Working with large and heavy industrial components
Performing machining associated with hydraulic cylinder repair and rebuilding
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and work orders
Determining appropriate setups, tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining sequences
Measuring and inspecting components throughout the machining process
Using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment
Working to close tolerances and required surface finishes
Inspecting existing components to determine wear, damage,
and repair requirements
Troubleshooting machining challenges and determining practical repair solutions
Working collaboratively with welders, honing machinists, mechanics, and other members of the shop team
Safely rigging, positioning, and moving components using overhead cranes and material-handling equipment
Completing required job, production, and inspection documentation
Performing routine equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance
Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
Following Bridge Machine's quality and safety standards
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who knows their way around a manual machine and doesn't need every step of a job laid out for them.
Ideally, you'll bring:
5+ years of manual machining experience in an industrial, repair, or manufacturing workplace
Strong experience operating manual lathes and mills
Experience machining large components is a strong asset
Hydraulic cylinder repair or heavy industrial machining experience is highly desirable
Strong understanding of machining principles, tolerances, fits, and surface finishes
Ability to independently plan machining setups and sequences
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Strong competency using precision measuring and inspection equipment
Mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting ability
Experience safely using overhead cranes and rigging equipment
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative shop environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
A Red Seal Machinist certification is an asset,
but not required. We recognize that some of the strongest manual machinists have built their expertise through years of hands‑on experience.
The Person Who Will Do Well Here
You're a machinist who likes figuring things out.
You understand that repair machining isn't always straightforward. The part in front of you may be worn, damaged, oversized, or unlike anything you worked on yesterday.
You know how to assess the job, develop a setup, choose the right tooling, take accurate measurements, and make adjustments as you go.
You also understand the importance of getting it right.
You take pride in your workmanship, look after your equipment, communicate when something doesn't make sense, and enjoy working with other experienced tradespeople to solve problems.
Why Bridge Machine?
At Bridge Machine, you won't spend every day producing the same part.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Work on large, challenging, and varied industrial components
Perform true manual and repair machining
Apply your experience and judgment rather than simply following a repetitive process
Work on hydraulic cylinders and equipment used in demanding industrial environments
Work alongside experienced machinists and tradespeople
See projects move through repair and manufacturing from start to finish
Continue developing specialized heavy machining and repair skills
Be part of a company backed by the broader Boundary group of companies
Being part of Boundary gives Bridge the strength and opportunities of a growing group of specialized industrial companies while maintaining the hands‑on environment and team culture of a dedicated machine shop.
Join Bridge Machine
If you're an experienced Manual Machinist who enjoys challenging work, takes pride in precision, and wants more variety than repetitive production machining, we want to hear from you.
Bring Your Skill. Bring Your Experience. Bring Your Craftsmanship.
