Formerly Frontier College, United for Literacy is the national registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, and adults through literacy. Our vision is:

Since 1899, our All Welcome! approach and innovative services have been transforming every place into a learning place. In the past year, nearly 25,000 children, youth, and adults in over 200 urban, rural, and remote places across Canada (including 137 Indigenous communities) gained access to free, inclusive literacy and numeracy programs. These programs took place both in person and online, and they were supported by nearly 2,000 trained volunteer tutors.
As an education-focused organization, we’re committed to learning from our shared history. In our recent history (from 2005), we progressively started to hire and train members of the communities we partner with. This ensures that the local culture, language, and traditions are the heart of all educational activities offered by United for Literacy. We will move forward in the spirit of reflection, collaboration, reconciliation, and change.
The opportunity
The Regional Coordinator position will require a commitment of 21 hours per week. United for Literacy has supported people involved with the justice system for over 50 years. Over the past three years, a team of Resource Development Advisors have worked with partners at Correctional Service Canada and various organizations to build a suite of resources that build the legal knowledge and life skills of individuals. These resources have all been developed in consultation with incarcerated individuals. We recently received funding that will build the financial literacy skills of Canadians involved in the justice system. This will be achieved through self-directed online courses, an interactive app, as well as in-person and online workshops.
Overall accountability
The Financial Literacy Regional Coordinator will work with members of the Legal Literacy staff team and will work both independently and collaboratively to deliver the Financial Literacy project. The Regional Coordinator position reports to the Ontario Regional Director.

Main responsibilities & major duties
Oversee the development and implementation of the Financial Literacy Project.
Supervise two Resource Development Advisors.
Create a strategy for building the financial literacy skills and knowledge of people involved in the justice system.
Develop engaging, relevant content through consulting with key stakeholders (partners, national organizations, focus group participants, family members, people inside and outside institutions, etc.).
Expand existing and develop current Financial Literacy resources in collaboration with the Financial Literacy team.
Pilot and test resource materials on relevant groups. Revise materials as needed.
Develop social media content to inform individuals and family members about how to build financial literacy skills and access financial resources.
Plan and facilitate workshops, webinars, and other presentations.
Collaborate and consult with project partners.




Share resources created through this project using a variety of methods.
Manage tendering and hiring process work for service providers as needed.
Represent United for Literacy nationally.

Requirements Three to five years of relevant work experience
Experience with developing financial literacy and/or legal literacy content
Experience with facilitating in-person and online workshops and webinars
Excellent spoken and written communication
Experience developing and delivering educational programming for adults.
Ability to supervise and motivate a small team.
Experience working with diverse groups and ages
Able to think critically, prioritize, solve problems, and manage details
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and changing environment
Background in non-formal education
Solid Computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Internet).
Ability to travel.
Additional Assets Knowledge of social media platforms
Ability to create promotional materials using Canva
Experience working in the criminal justice system
Fluency in French
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Compensation: $34,900 to $37,900 per year ($58,200 to $63,200 FTE)
