Position Summary:
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching qualitative research methods in the study of deviance to graduate students, including developing the course syllabus in accordance with collective agreement requirements. Course delivery should emphasize engaging, practical instruction and provide students with hands‑on experience in field research. The instructor should guide students through developing research questions, selecting and applying appropriate methods, collecting and analyzing qualitative data, and navigating relevant administrative processes, including the ethics review process.

Qualified applicants should have experience conducting relevant qualitative fieldwork, demonstrated through graduate-level research (e.g., thesis or dissertation) and/or peer‑reviewed publications, as well as expertise in field research methods used to study deviance and deviant subcultures, including observational, interview-based, and qualitative analytical approaches.

All applicants must hold a PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related cognate discipline. Applicants with a PhD in another discipline may be considered if they demonstrate a transparent connection to criminology. A strong background in qualitative research and prior teaching experience is expected.

This appointment is in accordance with the Contract Teaching Faculty and Part-time Librarians Collective Agreement, for which the Wilfrid Laurier Faculty Association (WLUFA) is the exclusive bargaining agent.
