The Faculty of Education is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses in the 2026-27 Session in the Winter Term. Please apply by submitting a letter of application, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information of three referees in a single pdf file in English to the Office of the Dean of Education (see email below) and indicate the course name(s) and number(s) in your email. The courses will run based on sufficient enrollment and budgetary approval.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Salary: $8,132.00 per 3 credit hour course.

01.361 Professional Teacher (EY-MY)

Current issues in education and schooling will be considered in historical, philosophical, and sociological contexts. Dialogue connecting such issues to actual practice will contribute to the content of this course. The student’s personal beliefs and emergent philosophy of education will be clarified in the content of the EY-MY teacher. 4 lecture hours per week, one term.

02.334 Teaching English as an Additional Language (EY-MY) (A00) Slot E03

This course is designed for teacher candidates in the Early and Middle Years school program who wish to teach English to children whose first language is not Standard English or whose proficiency in English is limited. This course is based on the Manitoba curriculum guide and aims at developing the skills implicit in that guide. Credit cannot be held for both this and 02:353. 4 lecture hours per week, one term.

04.253 Inclusive Ed/Childhood Disabilities (E-MY) (A03) Slot Tue/Thu 8:30-9:50am The focus of this course is on the role of the early and middle years teacher in providing inclusive education within the classroom to a diverse student population. This course develops inclusive educational practices and provides a critical examination on the Manitoba context, including the Public Schools Amendment Act (Appropriate Education Programming), and the concepts of disability and learner differences. Instruction about how to deploy a universal design for instruction, adaptation, modifications,



and the provision of assistive technology is also included. 4 lecture hours per week, one term.

04.255 Child Development/Learning Process (EY-MY) (A00) Slot E03

This course will examine current theories of physical, cognitive, social/cultural, moral/spiritual, and aesthetic development of children, in addition to theories of learning, and will focus on the application of those theories to classroom practice. 4 lecture hours per week, one term.

04.709 Theories of Counselling (NET) Online Synch TBA

Major contemporary theories and approaches to counselling and psychotherapy will be explored. This includes evaluating philosophical assumptions, key concepts, applications, and processes of change.

04.756 Children – Behavioural Disorder I (NET and NT1) Online Synch TBA

This course will focus on teaching children who chronically and markedly respond to their environments in socially unacceptable or personally unsatisfying ways. The focus of this course will be on the identification and teaching of children with behavioural disorders. Specific means by which teachers may assist children with behavioural disorders will be examined and discussed. 3 lecture hours per week, one term.

05.268 Movement & Activities (A00) Slot 12

This course is designed to introduce students to the movement education approach to teaching physical education content as outlined in the early years curriculum. Through a variety of activities, emphasis will be on physical literacy, the understanding of the basic movement concepts, and on developmental progressions used for the acquisition of movement skills. 3 lecture/practice hours per week, one term.

05.269 Foundations of Recreation and Leisure (A00) Slot 4

This course explores the nature and scope of recreation and leisure, considering past influences and implications for the future. The course also provides an overview of the components that make up the leisure service delivery system. Field and classroom work required. 3 lecture/practice hours per week, one term.

05.368 Outdoor Education (A00) Slot 4

A study of the history,



philosophy and scope of outdoor education. Consideration will be given to the skills, attitudes and knowledge which can most readily be taught outdoors. Focus will be on summer activities. Field Trips to observe programs in outdoor education and several short-term outdoor experiences will be provided. Students may have to provide supplies and equipment for various outdoor experiences. 3 lecture/practice hours per week, one term.
