Job Summary

False Creek Community Centre is seeking an experienced and passionate Program Supervisor to join our childcare team! This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about getting children outdoors, who believes in the value of learning through nature and exploration, and who wants the chance to help shape a program from the ground up.

This program runs outside except in extreme weather. Applicants must enjoy the outdoors, have appropriate gear for spending approximately 3 hours in all kinds of weather, and be able to wear a backpack while taking the children off-site.

As the first supervisor of this new program, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside the Childcare Manager to help establish its routines, culture, programming, and day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

- Supervising and supporting staff while creating a positive, team-oriented team environment
- Helping develop engaging, age-appropriate outdoor programming for children ages 5 to 12
- Creating opportunities for nature-based learning, exploration, play, and skill-building
- Supporting the safety and well-being of children while outdoors in changing weather and conditions
- Establishing routines, procedures, expectations, and systems for a brand-new program
- Communicating professionally and positively with children, families, staff, and the broader community
- Supporting staff training, mentorship, scheduling, and day-to-day problem-solving
- Helping ensure the program is welcoming, inclusive, organized, and responsive to the needs of the children
- Ensuring the program operates in alignment with licensing requirements, regulations, organizational policies, and industry best practices.
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the program




- Administrative Duties including, but not limited to, expenditure, attendance, and program consolidation, etc.

Qualifications

- At least 2 years of experience in a lead, supervisory, or similar leadership position
- At least 2 years of experience working in an outdoor setting
- Experience working with children, ideally within the 5 to 12 age range
- A genuine passion for the outdoors and outdoor learning
- Comfortable working outside every day, rain or shine
- Familiarity with inclusive practices and licensing regulations
- Must have a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Subject to Criminal Record Check
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently while also being a supportive team leader
- Enthusiasm for helping build and shape a new program rather than simply stepping into an established one
- This job requires you to carry and pull at least 50lbs in a trolley and walk long distances

Assets

- ECE, ECEA, or Responsible Adult Certification
- Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing, learning, and relationships with the land
- Experience with nature-based, land-based, forest school, outdoor education, or other similar learning programs.

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 22.0 – 32.0 per week
