The Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University invites applicants for the role of Assistant Dean, Health Professions Education Research and Director, McMaster Health Education Research, Innovation and Theory (MERIT) Centre. This combined position plays a pivotal role in establishing and guiding the academic mission in health education scholarship at McMaster University, including the oversight of the MERIT Centre.

MERIT has a vision to grow a community of scientists and clinicians to advance health professions education through research and applied science. With 13 education scientists, 87 associated members, and 6 staff members, MERIT has a broad range of scholarship and programming. This position encompasses two distinct leadership functions, each with separate reporting relationships and areas of responsibility. As Assistant Dean, Health Professions Education Research, the incumbent reports to the Vice-Dean, Education. In their capacity as Director of the MERIT Centre, the incumbent reports to the Centre's Governing Board, which is co-chaired by the Vice-Deans, Education and Research in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

An administrative stipend, based on this 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) senior administrative role, is provided.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree relevant to health professions education research and have experience in academic administration. Those candidates who do not currently hold a full-time academic appointment within the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University must also meet the criteria for and obtain a full-time academic appointment prior to taking on this position.
