Job Overview

Position Summary The Before & After School Care Educator supports the daily operation of Wildwood Child Care Centre licensed school-age program by creating a safe, inclusive, engaging, and nurturing environment for children ages 5–12. This role collaborates with the team to provide high-quality care, meaningful experiences, and opportunities for children to learn, explore, and build relationships both before and after the school day.

Key Responsibilities: Program Delivery & Child Engagement

- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities that reflect children’s interests, strengths, and emerging skills.
- Promote the Wildwood values of connection, collaboration, and environmental stewardship.
- Supervise children closely to ensure safety, inclusion, and positive participation.
- Support outdoor play, including nature-based experiences aligned with the BC Early Learning Framework.
- Encourage healthy peer interactions, problem-solving, and self-regulation.

Health, Safety & Licensing

- Maintain a safe physical and emotional setting consistent with BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- Conduct daily safety checks of indoor and outdoor environments.
- Follow all emergency procedures and respond promptly to incidents.
- Ensure snacks, transitions, and routines meet health and safety best practices.

Family & Community Connections

- Greet families daily, foster positive relationships, and communicate respectfully and professionally.
- Uphold mission of Wildwood building collaborative relationships that support children and the community.
- Support the Pollinator Highway, garden and other environmental sustainability initiatives where applicable.

Team Collaboration





- Work cooperatively with educators, mentors, and supervisors to create a cohesive, supportive team environment.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Contribute ideas to program planning and continuous improvement.

Documentation & Administration

- Record attendance, incident reports, and communication logs as required.
- Observe and document children's learning and interactions using BC Early Learning Framework principles.
- Maintain confidentiality and organizational policies.

Qualifications

- Experience working with school-aged children in a group childcare setting.
- Minimum 20-hr Responsible Adult certificate, or equivalent education in child development or recreation.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with the Ministry of Justice.
- Valid First Aid & CPR-C (or willingness to obtain).
- Understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework and Licensing Regulations is an asset.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather and support nature-based programming.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Hours & Employment Details

- Before School Shift: typically 7:30am–9:00am
- After School Shift: typically 2:30pm–5:30pm
- Additional hours may be available for Pro-D days, early dismissals, or school holiday programs.
- Wage reflective of experience and qualifications.

Job Type: Part-time Pay: From $24.00 per hour
