LiveBarn is the industry leader in live and on-demand streaming of amateur and youth sports across North America. Our automated platform connects families, athletes, and coaches to the action—anytime, anywhere—making youth sports more accessible and connected than ever before. We are a fast-growing technology company operating at the intersection of sports, media, and AI, building scalable systems that deliver real-world impact, with a strong focus on innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
LiveBarn is seeking a hands-on Broadcasting and Media Engineer to join our evolving and fast-paced technology team. In this role, you will help run and improve our live video platform, covering the full streaming path from cameras and encoders at venues through ingest, transcoding, and delivery to viewers. You'll work closely with field operations and engineering teams to keep streams stable, low-latency, and looking good—getting into the details when things break, whether that's a camera feed, network issue, Wowza configuration, FFmpeg process, NVIDIA driver, or playback problem.
What will you be doing?
- Build, operate, and troubleshoot live streaming workflows using Wowza, FFmpeg, and GStreamer
- Support cameras, hardware encoders, ingest, transcoding, recording, packaging, and delivery
- Troubleshoot workflows using RTSP, SRT, RTMP, HLS, and DASH
- Configure and troubleshoot IP cameras, including bitrate, resolution, frame rate, GOP, authentication, and firmware
- Support NVIDIA GPU-based transcoding, including drivers, NVENC/NVDEC, utilization, memory, and hardware acceleration issues
- Investigate dropped feeds, packet loss, latency, buffering, A/V sync issues, encoder failures, and quality problems
- Use tools such as ffprobe, FFmpeg, nvidia-smi, Wireshark,
tcpdump, and GStreamer diagnostics to get to the root of production issues
- Improve monitoring and alerting around stream health, latency, bitrate, packet loss, GPU health, and transcoding performance
- Help with incident response and root-cause analysis
- Automate common operational tasks with Python, Bash, or similar tools
- Support venue deployments, hardware upgrades, replay/VOD workflows, and production infrastructure
- Participate in an on-call rotation for live events
What do you need to succeed?
- Strong hands-on experience supporting live video streaming systems in production
- Solid experience with Wowza Streaming Engine is required
- Strong experience with FFmpeg for live streaming, transcoding, recording, and troubleshooting
- Experience with GStreamer is a plus
- Good working knowledge of RTSP, SRT, RTMP, HLS, and DASH
- Experience with IP cameras and hardware encoders
- Good understanding of H.264/H.265, AAC, MPEG-TS, ABR, GOP structure, keyframes, frame rates, and bitrate control
- Strong Linux and command-line troubleshooting skills
- Solid networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, UDP, NAT, routing, firewalls, VLANs, jitter, bandwidth, and packet loss
- Comfortable troubleshooting issues that may cross cameras, networks, Linux, GPUs, streaming software, CDNs, and playback clients
NVIDIA Experience — Required Hands-on experience with NVIDIA GPUs and drivers for video streaming or transcoding is required. You should be comfortable:
- Installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting NVIDIA drivers on Linux
- Working with NVENC and NVDEC
- Using nvidia-smi to diagnose GPU health, utilization, memory usage, and driver issues
- Troubleshooting NVIDIA acceleration in FFmpeg and GStreamer
- Resolving driver and library compatibility issues
- Supporting NVIDIA GPUs in Docker or other containerized environments
- Investigating GPU resource contention, encoder failures, and performance problems
We're looking for someone who can work through GPU-related streaming problems directly, rather than treating the NVIDIA layer as a black box.
Nice to Have
- Strong AWS streaming experience, especially with AWS Elemental MediaLive, MediaConnect, and MediaPackage
- Experience with EC2/GPU instances, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, VPC networking, load balancing, and autoscaling
- Experience troubleshooting streams from ingest through AWS transcoding, packaging, and CDN delivery
- Live sports, broadcast, or large-scale live event streaming experience
- Experience with Grafana or Prometheus
- Experience managing fleets of remote cameras or encoders
- Familiarity with ONVIF, SRT, or WebRTC
- Experience with stream recovery, failover, and large viewer spikes
- Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS, or Terraform experience
- Experience with replay, clipping, recording, and VOD workflows
About the Role LiveBarn is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible workplace where all employees feel valued and supported. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
