Cancer Exercise Senior Leader (SEL)
Description of Service:
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
Cancer Exercise program leaders must:
1. be a health professional from a relevant discipline (e.g., Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology), a member in good standing with the association which governs the profession (e.g., Ontario College of Physiotherapists), and provide to Wellspring a copy of the registration and their professional liability insurance
2. have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with populations with serious health issues, conditions or disease and also Wellspring experience.
3. have a certification in health care professional level CPR, AED & First Aid Training
4. have access to a computer with a camera and microphone and a reliable internet connection, and
5. having experience with leadership of an online program is an asset
6. ability to lead the participants through an online exercise routine, provide verbal instructions and demonstrate the exercises (virtual)
Training
1. Wellspring Training is required OR completion of equivalent training to be approved by Wellspring.
2. Wellspring’s Training programs include
3. CancerSmart Rehab Techniques in Oncology (required)
4. CancerSmart Advanced Rehab Techniques in Oncology (required)
5. For online facilitation review of the orientation materials, bi-weekly routines and educational modules
Key areas of responsibility
1. Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the Wellspring Program Leaders Guide and their professional college
2.
Equipment set up and take down (if required by Centre)
3. Assess new members upon entrance into the program (In Center)
4. Ensure members have required physician’s consent to participate in the program (those with advanced cancers)
5. Create personalized exercise plan for members (In Center program)
6. Ability to lead the participants through an online exercise routine, provide verbal instructions and demonstrate the exercises virtually
7. Have a case conference with other professional leaders and Program Manager and create a safety plan for high risk members
8. Create a safe setting that encourages members to share
9. The professional group leader (SEL) maintains primary responsibility for the leadership and management of the group exercise class
10. Supervision and direction of cancer exercise volunteers and EL as necessary
11. Ensure that attendance is recorded (volunteer/EL) at each class.
12. Undertake program evaluation according to Wellspring’s procedures.
13. Refer any issues or concerns that require follow up to the Program Manager or Centre Manager
14. Keep detailed progress notes, assessment and reassessment and discharge protocols
15. Program modifications as required
16. Engage in the Wellspring culture of philanthropy by taking opportunities within the program setting to recognize the importance of philanthropy for program delivery.
Pay: $45.00-$55.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 – 30.0 per week
