Position: Casual Assistant for Houses and Work Programs

Location: L’Arche Cape Breton, Iron Mines Cape Breton

L’Arche Cape Breton is seeking an energetic, compassionate individual to work and spend time alongside individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Successful applicants will belong to a community setting, learn new skills, and develop meaningful relationships. Location:

- We have seven houses in Orangedale and Iron Mines where people with and without disabilities live together.
- We have seven day programs in Orangedale and Iron Mines where people with and without disabilities spend meaningful time together.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Develop a positive, supportive and mutual relationship with individuals with intellectual disabilities through sharing daily life together, which respects their history, choices, goals and needs.
- Collaborating with team members to ensure,



that the physical, emotional, spiritual, vocational, recreational, health and safety needs of individuals with developmental disabilities are met while maximizing their choices and participation in the decisions affecting their lives.
- Assist with personal care, driving, housekeeping and cooking as needed.

Qualifications:

- Willingness to learn about L’Arche history, values and vision
- Ability to remain calm, focused and explicit in times of crisis
- Ability to take direction and follow-through on commitments in timely fashion
- Help members of the program fulfill the mission of the community and the specific mandate of the program.
- Able to push, pull and lift up to 44 lbs as needed, and walk up to 60 minutes or 3 km per day, as required.
- Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback
- Ability to directly address tensions in relationships
- Clear police check including vulnerable sector screening and at least 18 years of age
- Driving considered an Asset
