Purpose of the Role The Child Care Case Aide supports front-line Child Welfare staff in meeting the day-to-day needs of children, youth, and families involved with Payukotayno. This role provides hands-on assistance, transportation, supervision, and culturally appropriate caregiving to support child well-being and safety within both agency care and family-based settings.

The Case Aide plays an essential role in ensuring children’s care aligns with their cultural identity, spiritual teachings, and family connections, in accordance with community-based practice and Nation law.

Core Responsibilities

1. Child-Centered Support

- Assist with the daily care of children and youth in agency care, Customary Care, or kin placements
- Provide support during supervised visits, case planning meetings, or transitions
- Offer culturally secure, respectful caregiving aligned with the child’s identity and care plan

2. Transportation and Escort

- Transport children, youth, and families to appointments, visits, and services as required
- Maintain logs of travel, contacts, and care provided in accordance with agency protocol
- Support safety and emotional wellbeing during travel and transitions

3. Supervision and Observation

- Provide one-on-one or group supervision in the community, homes, or agency settings
- Observe and document behaviors, interactions, and concerns to support caseworkers
- Communicate observations promptly to assigned Protection Workers or Supervisors

4. Logistical and Administrative Support

- Assist in preparing and delivering basic needs such as clothing, food, school supplies, or cultural items
- Help organize visitation spaces,



transportation schedules, and appointment tracking
- Maintain accurate documentation and follow confidentiality requirements

5. Cultural and Community Engagement

- Support children’s participation in cultural events, ceremonies, or traditional teachings
- Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members as guided by program leads
- Promote land-based healing and language use where appropriate

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Secondary school diploma or equivalent required
- Post-secondary coursework in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, or Early Childhood Education is an asset
- Prior experience working with children, youth, or families in Indigenous communities preferred
- Familiarity with the principles of child welfare, trauma-informed care, and cultural safety
- Ability to remain calm, responsive, and respectful in fast-changing or emotionally complex situations

Conditions of Employment

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness to travel between sites and work flexible hours as needed
- Physical ability to lift, support, and safely supervise children when required
