What You Will Be Doing

Community Wellness Programs:

- Develop, implement, and evaluate wellness programs that address community needs, including mental health, addiction support, family wellness, and youth engagement.
- Integrate traditional knowledge, ceremonies, and teachings into program delivery to ensure cultural relevance.
- Facilitate workshops, group sessions, and community events focused on health promotion and prevention.

Community Engagement:

- Build trust and positive relationships with community members through active listening, respect, and confidentiality.
- Act as a liaison between the community, leadership, and external organizations to address wellness needs.
- Conduct outreach to ensure that all community members, including Elders, youth, and vulnerable populations, are supported.

Capacity Building:

- Organize training sessions for community members and staff on topics such as mental health, addiction awareness, and traditional healing. etc.
- Mentor and empower caregivers to take leadership roles in community wellness initiatives.
- Support the development of local networks to enhance access to resources and services.

Administrative Duties:

- Maintain accurate records of services provided, ensuring confidentiality.
- Prepare reports and funding proposals to support wellness programs.
- Monitor budgets and ensure program resources are used effectively.

Principal Accountabilities

- Identify and introduce promising and/or best practices that contribute to personal, family and community wellness.




- Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate a range of evidence-based primary prevention workshops, activities, programs and/or presentations for children, parents and community using age appropriate resources and technology.
- Plan and implement a children’s recreation program.
- Plan and facilitate evidence-based secondary prevention and/or educational programs to at risk children and families on an individual or group basis, at individual homes or community sites.
- Collaborate on the planning and implementation of a variety of community events to promote personal, family and community wellness.
- Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate child focused workshops and/or programs to share and transfer Anishnawbe traditional knowledge and/or practices.
- Facilitate and supervise social, fitness, recreational and family activities.
- Implement social marketing strategies to promote wellness, programs/services and recruit participants.
- Work collaboratively with referring agencies to identify at risk children and families and their needs.
- Screen referrals to determine suitability for group or individual delivery of programming.
- Plan and facilitate evidence-based secondary prevention and/or educational programs to at risk children and families on an individual or group basis, at individual homes or community sites.
- Develop, implement and/or coordinate a variety of child-specific healing and wellness programs and activities.
- Demonstrate consistent ability to maintain positive working relationships.
- Collaborate with Youth Wellness Worker with relevant programs and/or activities.
- Maintain clear, concise and accurate client records in compliance with relevant case management and administrative policies and procedures as they apply to the position.
- Develop secondary prevention case management policies and procedures in collaboration with Community Wellness Management Team and other relevant partners.
- Refer to other programs and services as needs are identified.
- Participate in case reviews and/or conferences.
- Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate programs and activities.
- Participate in and support program evaluation processes.
- Participate in the provision of afterhours/on-call services as assigned (rotational on-call system).
- Responsibility to be on Emergency Operations Control Group and/to support to EOGC and/or community during emergency response activities.
- Provide demographic, health status, statistical, and program information according to policy.
- Develop activity, program and funding proposals for management approval.
- Collaborate with leadership, staff, community and partners in achieving the goals and objectives identified in the Community Health Plan, Sagamok

Anishnawbek Ten Year Action Plan and other community development initiatives.

- Participate as a member of the community After Hours Crisis Response Team, sharing the responsibility for call rotation.
- Collaborate as a member of the Professional Healing Team and other assigned community development initiatives.
- Build and/or strengthen bridges between traditional and mainstream approaches to wellness.
- Use technology and other resources to create print documents, electronic and other program resources and materials.
- Comply with Unit, Band, and funding accountability standards (including but not limited to personnel,



program and administrative forms; program logic models; work plans; narrative and data program reports and quality assurance practices).
- Participate in regular supervision, staff and corporate meetings as directed.
- Participate in and support program evaluation processes.
- Provide occasional briefing notes and/or position papers as assigned.
- Represent the interests of Sagamok Anishnawbek on assigned committees or groups.
- Use academic study, self-directed learning, and other training opportunities to continually develop professional knowledge and skills.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who brings:
- Preference for university degree in human services.
- Minimum requirement is college diploma in human services.
- Minimum of two (2) years direct service with children, families and groups.
- Successful completion of a college or university research or evaluation course will be considered a definite asset.
- Member of, or willingness to register with, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Life Skills Coaching Certificate an asset.
- Knowledge of and respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values and beliefs is of critical importance.
- Ability to understand and speak Ojibway will be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email software/s, and use of on-line learning resources.
- Professional, Ethical, Open-minded, Perceptive and Decisive.
- Committment to the Seven Grandfather Teachings

Additional Requirements

- Preference given to a member or resident of Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation.
- Valid Driver's license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
- Provide a criminal record check prior to commencing employment
- Hold, or be willing to secure CPR and First Aid Certification
- Able to work fleible hours, including evenings and weekends when children are available for programming.
- Secure and maintain cerification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
- Sign and comply with an annual oath of confidentiality.
- Incumbent is subject to six months probation.
