Origin is a forensic investigation firm specializing in post-loss investigations in fire and electrical, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, materials, metallurgy and chemistry. Our multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists and technologists examines incidents objectively, working closely with all stakeholders to establish the facts, determine causes and set out transparent, evidence-based conclusions that make informed technical, legal and insurance decisions possible.

Primary Role

The primary and customary role of the civil engineer is to conduct technical investigations into the origin and cause of events.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct laboratory examinations and simulations to verify explanatory hypotheses;
- Gather data and make observations to determine the cause of the incident, whether involving a residential, commercial, industrial, or agricultural building;
- Review technical documents and standards;
- Explain the process leading to conclusions in accessible terms, communicating findings both verbally and in writing;
- Travel throughout Quebec (and occasionally outside the province) to determine the origin and cause of incidents;
- Serve as an expert witness in court proceedings when required.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline;
- Member of a professional order in Quebec;
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience (building structures, environmental, building construction, and loss assessment);




- Strong verbal and written communication skills in French;
- Aptitude for and interest in technical and hands-on work;
- Ability to participate in promotional activities and maintain the company’s professional network;
- Availability for training in Canada and the United States, as well as for sharing technical knowledge among experts;
- Good command of spoken and written English (an asset).
