Community Connections Worker

New Beginnings

We are seeking a Community Connections Worker and are open to considering candidates interested in either part-time or full-time employment. The number of hours will be discussed based on the successful candidate's availability and the needs of the position.

New Beginnings is driven by a mission to foster healing and resilience in Indigenous communities through a Métis-rooted, holistic approach to recovery. In partnership with the Otipemisiwak Métis Government - the self-governing Métis Nation of Alberta, founded in 1928 and representing over 70,000 Métis citizens - New Beginnings provides pre-treatment stabilization & recovery transition programs grounded in Métis ways of healing and community care.

Guided by Métis values of kinship, mutual aid, and cultural pride, this program blends evidence-based recovery practices with Métis traditions, ensuring participants reconnect with their heritage while building a strong foundation for lifelong wellness. The program supports relatives on their recovery journey while honouring Métis governance, intergenerational wisdom, and land-based healing traditions.

New Beginnings is deeply committed to cultural safety, anti-racist practices, and the advancement of Indigenous health equity. As a program grounded in Métis traditions, we strive to create an environment where all community members are treated with dignity and respect, free from discrimination, and supported in their healing journey.

Reporting to the Cultural Programming Lead, the Community Connections Worker supports relatives in their recovery journey by strengthening connections to culture, community, treatment, and wellness supports. Working alongside relatives and the interdisciplinary team, this role builds relationships with community organizations, treatment providers, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and service partners to ensure relatives have access to the resources and supports they need to heal and thrive.

Role-Specific Accountabilities:

Outreach, Housing Stability & Community Connection

· Provide outreach and practical support to individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness,



including appropriate follow-up with former New Beginnings relatives who may benefit from continued connection and support.

· Provide advocacy, system navigation, referrals, and warm connections to housing, health, financial, educational, employment, fitness, cultural, spiritual, recovery, and other community supports.

· Build relationships with community organizations and service providers to strengthen pathways to housing stability, recovery, wellbeing, and community connection.

· Work with community partners to promote awareness of New Beginnings and other recovery pathways, helping individuals and organizations identify and access appropriate referral and support options.

· Support opportunities for ongoing peer and community connection, including alumni connections where these promote recovery stability, social connection, successful community integration, and reduced risk of homelessness.

· Coordinate and support Recovery Coaches and Junior Recovery Coaches to provide outreach, follow-up, resource navigation, and community connection.

Cultural & Community Support

· Support relatives to access cultural and spiritual opportunities that strengthen identity, belonging, wellbeing, and community connection.

· Connect relatives with appropriate cultural, spiritual, recreational, fitness, and community-based opportunities.

· Assist with cultural and community activities as required, working alongside the Cultural Programming Lead and wider team.

Direct Support to Relatives

· Walk alongside relatives using a culturally safe, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented approach.

· Provide one-to-one practical support, advocacy, outreach, system navigation, and referrals.

· Facilitate or co-facilitate groups, circles, workshops, outreach activities, and community-based supports as appropriate.

Documentation & Teamwork





· Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR and other required systems, including outreach, referrals, follow-up, and outcomes.

· Participate in case discussions, team meetings, partnership development, and program improvement.

· Work collaboratively with New Beginnings staff to support housing stability, recovery, community connection, and positive outcomes.

· Uphold confidentiality, cultural safety, professional boundaries, and organizational policies.

Qualifications:

· Diploma or certificate in Human Services, Social Work, Addictions, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

· Experience working in community outreach, mental health, addictions, Indigenous services, or recovery support.

· Understanding of Indigenous cultures, trauma-informed care, and culturally secure practices.

· Strong communication, relationship-building, and advocacy skills.

· Experience facilitating groups or supporting individuals in recovery is an asset.

· Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and ability to transport participants as required.

· CPR/First Aid and Naloxone certification, or willingness to obtain.

Conditions of Employment:

· Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check required.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

This is a full-time, or part-time, on-site role with occasional evenings, weekends and overnights, based in Edmonton, Alberta, with opportunities for occasional travel.

Pay: $55,000.00 per year
