The Farmland Trust is looking for a Community Engagement & Administration Coordinator!
The Salt Spring Island Farmland Trust is looking for an organized, creative and community-minded person to join our team for a paternity leave contract from October 10-December 15, with the possibility of renewal in 2027.
This is a varied, hands-on position at the intersection of community engagement, communications and administration. You’ll help us get the word out about courses, events, volunteer opportunities and campaigns—and make sure that the people who respond have a welcoming, well-organized experience from registration through to participation.
Our work ranges from regenerative agriculture and food security to community education, gleaning, workshops, fundraising and events. On any given day, you might be communicating with students about an upcoming Root to Bloom course, creating an Instagram post, reconciling registrations and payments, preparing a newsletter, putting up posters around town, tracking volunteers, or helping develop a fundraising campaign.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable wearing a lot of hats, enjoys working with people, and can keep the details straight while understanding the bigger picture of why the work matters.
Work Description
The Community Engagement & Administration Coordinator will support the day-to-day communications and engagement work of the Farmland Trust, including:
- Promoting Farmland Trust programs, courses, events, volunteer opportunities and campaigns
- Managing event and course registrations, including tracking registrations and payments
- Communicating with students and participants before and after courses and events
- Supporting administration of our Root to Bloom Learning Centre, including registration and student communications
- Sending email newsletters and program announcements
- Managing the Farmland Trust’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, including creating, scheduling and posting content
- Developing promotional materials for digital and print use
- Printing and posting posters and other promotional materials around the community
- Assisting with our CRM, contact lists and participant tracking
- Maintaining and updating volunteer records and communications
- Helping develop and deliver our year-end fundraising campaign, including campaign concepts, communications and materials
- Supporting the development and delivery of a Kickstarter campaign, including campaign communications and promotional materials
- Supporting event communications, registration, participant follow-up and other administrative needs
Occasionally attending evening or weekend courses and events to host, support participants, take photographs and gather material for communications
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, personable and self-directed, with robust written communication skills and a good eye for what makes community communications engaging and effective.
The ideal candidate will have experience in some combination of:
- Communications, community engagement or nonprofit administration
- Social media management, particularly Facebook and Instagram
- Email newsletters and digital communications
- Event, workshop or course registration
- CRM, database or contact-management systems
- Basic graphic design and creating promotional materials
- Fundraising or campaign communications
- Volunteer coordination or community organizing
- Photography and gathering content at community events
You don’t need to arrive knowing every platform we use (we use Canva, Adobe, Keela, Asana and Raisely). What matters most is that you are comfortable with digital tools, quick to learn, attentive to detail, and able to move between creative communications and practical administration.
Strong writing and editing skills are important. So is the ability to communicate warmly and professionally with a wide range of people—from students and volunteers to instructors, donors and community partners.
