Position summaryConsultant II is an emerging independent contributor within Lydium's Engineering job family, building on the foundation of 1-2 years of professional experience. In this role, you will contribute to Lydium's portfolio of process technology development projects for our industrial startup clients, taking ownership of defined technical work streams across pilot plant design, on-site commissioning, fundamental process and equipment design, process modelling, and techno-economic analysis, with your work reviewed rather than directed.

You are expected to have full awareness of Lydium's business and scope of practice, to handle routine client interactions within your technical scope confidently, and to begin supporting the development of newer team members. You must bring a combination of technical expertise, project engineering aptitude, interpersonal skills, and enthusiasm for hands-on operational experience. You must be flexible, intellectually agile, and possess a good sense of humour to work effectively in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Responsibilities

- Take ownership of defined technical work streams from assignment through completion, with review rather than direct oversight.
- Participate in the design and engineering of chemical pilot plants, including process design, mechanical design, instrumentation and controls, equipment selection, and layout optimization.
- Provide engineering support to Lydium's "in the field" projects during construction, commissioning, and execution phases. Duties could include revising engineering documents and drawings to their "as built" state, performing design calculations to support field changes, assembling data books, assisting with the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), performing document control, and assisting with the collection and analysis of data.
- Support techno-economic analysis (TEA)



for our clients' innovative process technology concepts, including "idea-phase analysis", technical and commercial landscape reviews, discounted cash flow financial models, examining relevant standards and specifications, and technical trade-off studies.
- Build and maintain thermochemical process models and data analysis frameworks using a variety of software tools, with senior engineer review.
- Handle routine client interactions within your assigned technical scope.
- Support the onboarding of co-op students and newly hired junior consultants.
- Travel to project sites as needed, including longer-term visits (multiple weeks) during periods of high activity.
- Participate in Lydium's internal project and product development initiatives.

QualificationsRequired

- Undergraduate Engineering degree from a recognized 4-year university program.
- 1-3 years of relevant post-graduation engineering experience, with at least 1 year in a position directly relevant to Lydium.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with the provincial/territorial qualified engineering association. *If your province of work does not offer EIT registration, equivalent internal compliance requirements apply in place of formal registration.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
- Eligible to work without restriction in Canada.
- Eligible to travel for business without restriction within Canada, the United States, and internationally (visa support will be provided if needed).
- Advanced-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.




- Expert-level proficiency in verbal and written English.

Preferred

- Applied operational or research and development experience related to chemical or metallurgical process technologies (non-university).
- Hands-on experience using tools to assemble, build, repair, or operate equipment.
- Experience using or programming design, simulation, or data analysis tools, such as Python scripting, building process simulations, and mathematical modelling.
- Experience working with instrumentation and control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, etc.).
