This position is anticipated to extend from December 2026 until January 31, 2028, subject to availability of work and funding.

Under the direction of the Manager, Foundational Standards, the Epidemiologist conducts measurement, monitoring, analysis, and interpretation of population health and surveillance data that are utilized for program planning and evaluation, outbreak management and the development of health status reports and knowledge products.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

- Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Research Methodology or equivalent

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

- Minimum of one (1) year of public health practice, with a role involving quantitative research methodologies and working with large administrative databases preferred
- Experience using statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, SAS, SPSS) and proficiency using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and other software packages currently used to collect, analyze, report and visualize epidemiological data in Ontario
- Experience with relevant public health data sets and information systems such as the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), Better Outcomes Registry & Network (BORN),



Integrated Public Health Information System (IPHIS) and IntelliHealth would be an asset
- Sound knowledge of how to apply epidemiological concepts, of current public health issues, and relevant legislation

SKILLS & ABILITIES

- Advanced skills in the application of epidemiologic and statistical methods in the study of communicable and non-communicable diseases
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with strong facilitation (presentation), project management, and organizational skills
- Excellent time-management skills and ability to prioritize work, along with strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a team environment, respond to competing priorities, build collaborative partnerships, integrate public health programs and knowledge, and deliver results through excellent customer service

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

- Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a reliable insured vehicle
- Ability to work flexible hours when necessary
- Adherence to SWPH’s policies and procedures

Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement. Salary Range: $44.46/hr to $52.91/hr based on verification of qualifications and experience. (70 hours in a two-week period).





Southwestern Public Health provides a flexible work workplace. Hybrid work arrangements are available for some positions, depending on the program and operational requirements.

Will receive vacation pay each pay period as well as pay in lieu of benefits following successful completion of the probationary period. Offered enrollment in the OMERS pension plan (if enrolled, in lieu benefits will reduce).

A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening will be required of the successful candidate.
