Overview

We are seeking an experienced Metal Fabrication & Installation Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial and industrial construction projects.

The estimator will be responsible for reviewing architectural and structural drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents to determine the complete scope of work for miscellaneous and structural metal packages. The role includes performing material and labour takeoffs, estimating shop fabrication and field installation hours, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, and preparing complete quotations for submission to general contractors and construction managers.

Responsibilities

- Review architectural, structural, and miscellaneous metal drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents.
- Identify the complete scope of work and determine what is included, excluded, or unclear.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for steel and miscellaneous metal components.
- Estimate shop fabrication labour, including cutting, fitting, welding, drilling, grinding, assembly, finishing, handling, and loading.
- Estimate field installation labour, including unloading, layout, drilling, anchoring, welding, bolting, fitting, touch-ups, and site coordination.
- Steel stairs and landings
- Guards and handrails

Qualifications

- 3–5+ years of estimating experience in metal fabrication,



miscellaneous metals, structural steel, or a closely related construction trade preferred.
- Strong understanding of commercial and industrial construction.
- Experience estimating both fabrication and field installation.

- Robust knowledge of steel fabrication processes, welding, fitting, cutting, drilling, forming, finishing, and assembly.
- Practical understanding of field installation methods, anchors, connections, access equipment, cranes, and site conditions.
- Familiarity with common steel shapes, grades, sizes, finishes, and fabrication materials.
- Ability to estimate labour hours realistically based on fabrication and installation complexity.
- Strong mathematical and quantity takeoff skills.
- Experience with estimating/takeoff software is an asset.
- Proficiency with Excel, PDF/Bluebeam-style takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with CAD, Tekla, AutoCAD, or similar software is an asset but not required.
- Knowledge of Ontario construction practices, building codes, welding requirements, and relevant CSA standards is an asset.
- CWB/fabrication knowledge is a strong asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify scope gaps before tender submission.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet firm tender deadlines.
- Strong communication skills for dealing with general contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, and shop personnel.

Pay: $55,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
