Location: Remote, from anywhere in Canada. This role is not based at an office, and the successful candidate must reside in Canada and be legally entitled to work here.

Travel: Regular travel across Canada; occasional international travel

About In-Sec-M

In-Sec-M, the Canadian Cybersecurity Cluster, is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 on the recommendation of the National Research Council Canada. Based in Gatineau, Quebec, it brings together key players in the Canadian cybersecurity ecosystem, connects organizations that need cybersecurity services with Canadian solution providers, and promotes Canadian cybersecurity expertise to decision-makers in Canada and abroad.

About the Role The Executive Director is the strategic and operational leader of In-Sec-M, responsible for advancing its mission to represent and support cybersecurity stakeholders across Canada. The role combines strategic leadership, advocacy, financial and organizational management, and stakeholder engagement.

The Executive Director is In-Sec-M’s primary spokesperson and ambassador, and is accountable to the Board for the organization’s operational and financial sustainability. This is a hands-on role in a small organization: the Executive Director sets direction and also does much of the work personally.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Board Support

- Develop and execute the strategic plan with the Board, in line with In-Sec-M’s mission and priorities
- Advise the Board on governance, priorities, opportunities and organizational risks
- Provide the Board with clear, timely and transparent financial and performance reporting
- Track cybersecurity trends and position In-Sec-M as a credible Canadian voice

Advocacy and Representation

- Represent In-Sec-M with government,



regulators, industry, academia and other stakeholders
- Advocate for policies and programs that strengthen Canada’s cybersecurity ecosystem
- Act as a spokesperson in media, industry and public forums
- Promote Canadian cybersecurity products, services and expertise nationally and internationally

Members and Partnerships

- Grow membership and the value members receive from In-Sec-M
- Build partnerships with industry, academia and government, and act as a connector for the sector
- Lead initiatives that strengthen Canada’s cybersecurity workforce and ecosystem
- Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across the ecosystem

Finance and Compliance

- Own In-Sec-M’s financial health and sustainability, and align financial decisions with strategic priorities
- Prepare and manage annual budgets, cash flow, forecasts, financial reporting and internal controls, working with the Board and the external accounting firm
- Secure and manage revenue from government funding, grants, sponsorships, partnerships and membership
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, governance and reporting requirements

Operations and People

- Oversee day-to-day operations and make effective use of a lean team of staff, contractors and volunteers
- Set clear priorities, processes and accountabilities suited to a small organization
- Lead a fully remote team, with the routines and tools that keep a distributed organization aligned
- Recruit, support and manage staff and external resources

Essential Qualifications

- Five years of senior leadership experience,



including two years leading a small or lean organization, ideally a not-for-profit, association, or a technology or cybersecurity company.
- Hands-on responsibility for the finances of a small organization: budgeting, cash flow, financial planning, reporting and resource allocation
- Experience working directly with a Board of Directors and providing strategic and financial recommendations
- Interest in cybersecurity policy, industry trends and Canada’s cybersecurity ecosystem
- Proven advocacy, communication, stakeholder engagement and partnership development skills
- Experience managing staff, external resources and competing priorities
- Demonstrated success working remotely, with the self-direction that a fully distributed organization requires
- University degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Assets

- Fluency in French and English, spoken and written (preferred)
- Experience securing and managing government funding, grants or sponsorships
- Experience leading a national or multi-province organization
- An established network in technology or the public sector
- Eligibility for a Government of Canada security clearance
