We seek a mature, creative leader who leads while fostering a feminist culture of dignity, respect, acceptance and compassion. Our new Executive Director is the face of Kootenai Community Centre Society: they are a positive, well organized and collaborative professional with experience in financial and grant management, government contracts and budgets, financial report writing and non-profit administration, Board collaboration, amongst other proficiencies.
The successful candidate
- Has significant experience working in a not-for-profit social service agency
- Has completed post-secondary studies in Commerce and/or Administration, or equivalent of education and experience
- Has the ability to function independently and under pressure while managing concurrent projects and deadlines, including managing crises and emergency situations
- Demonstrates working knowledge of QuickBooks/Sage, MS Office Suite, Outlook
- Has current knowledge of BC Employment Standards, Workers Compensation Act and Human Rights Legislation, with ability to interpret same to staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the long term and day-to-day operations of the agency; with the help of program managers and supervisors.
- Assesses any potential strength, weakness, opportunity or threat to the Society; such as image, financial security, or other liabilities. Strategies and procedures should be sufficient to protect the Society.
- Coordinates and leads regular management and staff meetings to ensure program alignment with organizational goals and policy. This may include team building, coaching, mentoring, and ensuring good self-care practices.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with government officials, community groups, service providers, stakeholders, and funding sources.
- Promotes community awareness of the Society and funding needs. Represents the Society at community events or other official functions
- Is current and familiar with all programs, services, and statistics of the Society.
- Effectively communicates to media, responds to public inquiries, and manages all public relations in conjunction with the Board.
- Establishes and ensures all professional, licencing, and other mandatory requirements are in place to satisfy legal regulatory and other requirements
- Responsible for contract negotiations and proposals with funders. This includes terms, conditions, leaseholders, and landlords.
- Pursues, develops, and directs grant applications, donations, and fund-generating activities
- Prepares annual operational budgets for consideration and approval of the Board, maintaining to audit standards and in accordance to contract requirements.
- Collaboratively work with the Board of Directors to create organization vision, mission, values, and oversees the maintenance of all society official records.
- Foster effective communication between the Board of Directors, staff, and memberships. This includes legislative changes, resource needs, and other matters of importance to the agency. Communication can be by proposals and plans to the Board for review, discussion, and approval
- Provides regular reports to the Board on the progress of the Society and reports exceptional incidents and information accurately to the Board in an expeditious manner.
- Provides input into development of new or revised operational policies, goals, strategic plans, mission statements, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Well-developed planning and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing workplace
- Understanding of and commitment to a harm reduction philosophy as outlined in the agency policy
- Working at a Masters level by the way of degree or combination of experience, education, and training with a proven knowledge specific to the following:
- women’s studies;
- family or criminal law;
- human and economic impact of violence in relationships and the effects on families;
- Strong understanding of violence against women and children
- Familiarity with current research and best practices towards STV work
- Understanding and theoretical approaches to working with survivors of violence, early childhood education, youth, and poverty
- 5 years of progressive and responsible experience in program, managerial, supervisory, and financial control in the community social service sector
- Demonstrated and in-depth working knowledge of community-based programs and services, funding sources, community relations, Governance Board relations, and access to community resources.
- Strong financial management skills. This includes budgeting, reports, and solid knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and audit requirements.
- Human Resource Management skills. This includes recruitment, selection, training, and retention. A strong emphasis on self-care and the effect of vicarious trauma is necessary.
- Successful fund (and fundraising) development, marketing, public relations.
- Solid grounding in policy development and risk management and informing & recruiting Board Members within a governance model.
- Must be able to work in a high stress environment while being faced with multiple demands with occasionally urgent time pressures, balancing schedules, interruptions and managing competing deadlines.
Pay: $72,500.00-$80,000.00 per year
