Position Summary

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta is looking for an Executive Director who lead the operation of Girls Inc. of

Northern Alberta in the following areas:

- Strategic leadership, governance support and board relations
- Financial stewardship, resource mobilization and organizational sustainability
- Program development and delivery oversight
- Human resources and organizational leadership
- Communications, stakeholder engagement and community leadership
- General administrations and risk management

The ideal candidate for this role would be an adaptable and proactive professional with a track record of direct experience in the abovementioned areas in the non-profit industry, who demonstrates humbleness and shares our mission and vision from day one.

To address layers of needs and challenges unique to girls ages 5-18 in the Wood Buffalo region, we deliver life-changing programs that are innovative, intentional, research-based, preventative, holistic, context-specific, age-appropriate, barrier-free and transformational. Our programming provides girls with the knowledge and skills needed to break free from stereotypes, create social change and be proud of who they are.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board of Directors, Executive Director – is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term strategy by providing executive leadership in partnership with the Board of

Directors. As the primary leader and ambassador, the role reflects a balance of strategic leadership,

operational oversight, and community engagement, ensuring sustainable growth and meaningful impact for girls and the broader community.

Strategic Leadership, Governance Support and Board Relations

- Execute the strategic direction established in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Work closely with board officers and committee chairs to ensure alignment and progress toward organizational goals.
- Coordinate Board meetings (including Annual General Meeting) and submit necessary reference documents in a timely matter.
- Attend Board and Executive Committee meetings in an ex-officio capacity, ensuring continuity, accountability, and strategic oversight.
- Provide leadership and guidance in the development of governance policies, procedures, and organizational priorities.
- Support the Board in governance, policy development, and strategic oversight.
- Ensure coordination and alignment of all Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta organizational activities to strategic direction.
- Implement all policies approved by the Board of Directors in the administration of the entire organization and its operations.
- Confer regularly with the Board President. Work as a team with the Board President in implementing board decisions, maintaining effective governance and board development, coordinating work of the board committees, as well as reviewing progress towards strategic goals.




- Serve as an advisor and resource to the Board of Directors and its committees on all aspects of the organization’s activities. Act as an ex-officio member of and support the work of all committees as set up by the Board of Directors and attend and participate in all Board meetings.
- Coordinate training materials and support the Board President in Board orientation of new Directors.

Finance Stewardship, Resource Mobilization and Organizational Sustainability

- Manage and oversee an annual budget of approx. $700K+
- Maintain healthy organizational finance and resource development to ensure that the organization is viable and effective.
- Ensure the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation, charitable status, etc.
- Ensure adequate systems of control and financial accounting in accordance with a recognized system of accounting.
- Prepare and present monthly and year-end financial reviews for the Board of Directors.
- Manage grants writing and reporting.
- Monitor financial performance
- Ensure adequate resources are secured to sustain and grow the organization.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development plan.
- Oversee planning and execution of fundraisers. Negotiate with partners. Mobilize committees, vendors, volunteers and gift vehicles where appropriate.

Program Development and Delivery Oversight

- Oversee program implementation and overall delivery management per program to ensure expected outcomes are achieved against objectives, indicators, and cash flows.
- Oversee high-level program partnership development with new and existing partners.
- Ensure that programs are diversified, creative, intentional, research-based, preventative, holistic, context-specific, age-appropriate, barrier-free and transformational by partnering with school boards and community organizations – including youth centres, BIPOC advocates and subject matter experts.
- Oversee monthly program reporting as well as annual reporting are completed in a timely matter with quality.

Human Resources & Organizational Leadership

- Accountable for building, mentoring, and leading high-performing teams, ensuring all teams are aligned and collaborating to achieve organizational results. Create a cohesive and inspired staff team that demonstrates organizational values. Administer staff operations. Supervise all staff.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels and compensation consistent with organizational needs. Recruit, employ and release employed staff. Make assignments and develop job descriptions.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and assess staff regularly with respect to performance and expectations to
- improve individual and organizational performance.
- Administer payroll and staff benefit program. Maintain rewards and benefit programs.
- Oversee program volunteer mobilization and appreciation efforts. Issue necessary paperwork for volunteer mobilization.

Communications, Stakeholder Engagement and Community Leadership





- Deliver quality written communications, grant applications, and publicly issued statements that are generally free from errors.
- Represent Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta independently when meeting with stakeholders, community leaders, influencers, donors, etc.
- Communicate with Girls Inc. HQ. Ensure to get the local affiliate voice heard in close collaboration with other Canadian Affiliates. Relay messages from Girls Inc. HQ to staff, Board of Directors, and community stakeholders.
- Initiate, develop and maintain positive working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

General Administrations and Risk Management

- Ensure that the organizational operation meets the expectations of its members, the Board of Directors, donors and the community.
- Identify, assess and inform the Board of internal and external issues that affect the organization.
- Evaluate the identified risks to the organization and implement appropriate measures to control the risk, in conjunction with the Board of Directors.
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness across the organization.
- Enforce safety protocols, including insurance compliance.
- Ensure all legal, financial, and organizational records are accurately maintained.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Previous Executive Director experience working with non-profit preferred.
- 5+ year with management/supervisory experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- Master’s degree preferred. Relevant experience or qualification will be considered.
- Extensive experience working in gender equality programming and advocacy work with organizational
- leadership and management of comparable size and mission.
- Proven strategic leadership/senior management expertise in one or more of the following areas: fund
- development, fundraising, youth/gender-specific program management, governance support, human
- resources, communications, marketing, administrations, and risk management.
- Expertise and demonstrated experience in issues and stakeholders relevant to the organization.
- Experience in or across multiple sectors, including non-profit, public and corporate environments.
- Experience in developing partnerships, building teams, conflict management and leading teams of
- various backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, embrace changes and communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish priorities and timelines to handle multiple projects in an efficient, accurate and
- professional manner.
- Empathy, humbleness, and flexibility.
- Share strong passion around inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Zoom and Social Media outlets.
- Background check.
- Class 5 Driver’s License is a must.
