Overview The Lake Country Heritage and Cultural Society (LCHCS) who operates the Lake Country Museum & Archives (LCMA) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization with a passion for education, a desire for organization in our archives and a commitment to excellence.
The incumbent, reports to the Board of Directors, and manages daily operations in order to fulfill the mission of the Museum & Archives to “Tell the story of Lake Country’s region while providing an opportunity to learn through research, education and collaboration.”
LCHCS) is a not-for-profit society, registered under the B.C. Societies Act. Its purpose is to “Act as a repository of cultural materials of interest and significance, promote and enhance education and provide input on heritage issues.”
The current Strategic Plan strives to ensure the Society has the capacity to manage all aspects of its operations, while investing in recent educational opportunities.
Furthermore, the Board strives to improve the museum’s ability to preserve and make accessible heritage resources to the community by expanding its focus on archives management.
Finally, there is a need to improve the Museum’s ability to educate and make accessible heritage resources to the community by enhancing exhibits and programming; all while maintaining an active web presence.
Responsibilities
- Leadership:
Oversees the creation and implementation of the short term and a long-term strategic plan. Ensures that operations are consistent with the LCMA mission and mandate. Works with the Board of Directors to implement policy through its administrative procedures.
- Financial Management: Implements operating budgets, manages revenue and expenditure.
- Grant Application and Fundraising: Seeks out and manages grants and funding sources.
- Staff and Volunteer Management: Hires, supervises and mentors' staff and volunteers,
- Community Outreach: In collaboration with the Board President, the spokesperson for LCMA in the community and with the District of Lake Country. This includes building partnerships with arts and cultural organizations, schools, indigenous communities, and the media.
- Collections Oversight: Ensures that the collection, preservation, cataloguing and display standards for archival materials and curatorial items are implemented and maintained.
Requirements
- Education: A background and demonstrated interest in archives and museums.
- Experience: Experience in a cultural, educational, heritage, museum or archives setting.
- Skills: Evidence of a high level of organizational skills, public speaking ability, proven team building skills, good reporting and feedback skills, excellent time management.
Pay: $33.00-$38.00 per hour Expected hours: 24.0 per week
