Island Health offers family medicine opportunities across a range of practice environments.

Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are clinical networks of primary care service providers within a geographical area. They provide team-based primary care through a range of care models, bringing together knowledge and experience to support coordinated care for patients.

Urgent and Primary Care Centres (UPCCs) provide access to same-day, urgent, nonemergency health care. Many centres offer evening, weekend and statutory holiday hours,



providing an alternative to the hospital for concerns that do not require emergency care.

Opportunities are also available in Island Health-owned and operated clinics, private clinics and specialized programs across Vancouver Island.

The Communities

Island Health offers opportunities in communities ranging from vibrant urban centres to close-knit coastal and rural communities, with populations ranging from approximately 5,000 to 390,000. Vancouver Island offers a stunning natural backdrop, a mild climate and access to yearround recreation. Physicians and their families can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, fishing, golf, sailing and more, alongside vibrant arts, culture and community life. The region also offers easy access to Vancouver and Seattle.

Education, Training And Experience

Island Health has academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia's Island Medical Program and offers teaching opportunities through the Family Practice Residency Program.
