Under the direction of the Chief Officers, the incumbent(s) will report to their immediate supervisor, and are responsible for fire/rescue response, pre-hospital emergency medical care, fire prevention, public education, fire inspection and other duties as assigned. The incumbent(s) will also be responsible for performing minor maintenance of apparatus, small equipment, building and grounds, and call taking / dispatching appropriate emergency and non-emergency personnel.

Required Qualifications:

- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification,
- Current CPR BLS
- NFPA 1001 Fire fighter level I
- NFPA 1001 Fire fighter Level II
- NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials Operations
- Valid Class 3 Drivers License
- Air brake endorsement
- Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status
- Proof of Grade 12, equivalent or better
- Driver’s Abstract reflective of no more than six points within the last three years
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (within last 6 months)
- Ability to operate communications equipment

Preferred Qualifications (equivalent or better):

- Post-secondary education completion
- Apprenticeship or trade certification
- PCP or ACP certification
- NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (recommended)
- Proven ability to work in a team environment




- Volunteer work in the community
- Demonstrated experience as a firefighter
- Knowledge of City of Iqaluit - geography, location of streets / addresses, major buildings and hazards
- Skilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and/or commercial vehicles
- Skilled in the use and operation of hand tools, power tools and portable equipment
- Ability to operate communications equipment

The successful candidate must possess good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under stressful and emergency situations. The ability to communicate in Inuktitut or French is an asset.

This position currently works 4 days on and 4 off, with two day and two night shifts. Dependability and flexibility is required and may be subject to overtime. The position also requires carrying a pager and the ability to respond to emergencies outside of the normal shift schedule.

Qualifications requises:

- Certification de répondant médical d’urgence (RMU)

- Certification valide de RCR et de premiers soins

- Pompier niveau I, norme NFPA 1001

- Pompier niveau II, norme NFPA 1001

- Opérations liées aux matières dangereuses, norme NFPA472 ou 1072

- Permis de conduire de classe3 valide

- Mention de freinage pneumatique

- Citoyenneté canadienne ou statut d’immigrant admis

- Attestation de fin d’études secondaires (5esecondaire ou 12eannée) ou équivalent, voire supérieur





- Dossier de conduite faisant état d’au plus six points d’inaptitude au cours des trois dernières années

- Vérification du casier judiciaire et d’antécédents du secteur vulnérable (au cours des six derniers mois)

- Capacité à utiliser de l’équipement pour communiquer

Qualifications privilégiées (équivalent ou niveau supérieur):

- Études postsecondaires terminées et réussies

- Certificat d’apprentissage ou certificat de qualification professionnelle

- Certification PSP ou PSA

- Formation de conducteur-opérateur de véhicules d’incendie, norme NFPA 1002 (recommandée)

- Aptitude éprouvée à travailler en équipe

- Travail bénévole dans la communauté

- Expérience démontrée à titre de pompier ou pompière

- Connaissance de la géographie de la Ville d’Iqaluit, notamment de l’emplacement des rues et des adresses, des principaux bâtiments et des risques qui y sont associés

- Compétence dans l’utilisation et l’entretien de machinerie lourde et/ou de véhicules commerciaux

- Capacité à utiliser et à faire fonctionner des outils manuels, des outils électriques et du matériel portatif

- Capacité à utiliser de l’équipement pour communiquer

La personne retenue doit posséder de bonnes aptitudes interpersonnelles et être capable de travailler dans des situations stressantes et d’urgence La capacité à communiquer en inuktitut ou en français – un atout.

Ce poste fonctionne selon un horaire de quatre jours de travail et quatre jours de congé, soit deux quarts de jour et de deux quarts de nuit. La fiabilité et la flexibilité sont requises pour ce poste. Il y a aussi des possibilités d’heures supplémentaires. La personne titulaire du poste doit également porter un téléavertisseur et être en mesure d’intervenir en cas d’urgence en dehors de son horaire de travail normal.
