About the Role:

As a Foster Parent in Canada, you will provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive home environment for children and youth who are unable to live with their biological families.

Your role is critical in promoting the well-being, development, and stability of foster children by meeting their physical, emotional, and social needs. You will collaborate closely with social workers, healthcare providers, educators, and other professionals to ensure that each child receives comprehensive care and support tailored to their unique circumstances. This position requires a compassionate and patient individual who can adapt to the challenges of fostering while advocating for the best interests of the children in your care.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to foster children in Canada.
- Successful completion of a foster parent training program as required by provincial or territorial regulations.
- Ability to pass background checks, including criminal record and child abuse registry screenings.
- Demonstrated capacity to provide a safe and stable home setting.
- Basic knowledge of child development and trauma-informed care principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous experience in caregiving, education,



social work, or related fields.
- Training or certification in first aid and CPR.
- Experience working with children who have special needs or behavioral challenges.
- Familiarity with community resources and support services for children and families.
- Strong understanding of cultural diversity and inclusive practices.

Responsibilities:

- Provide a safe, stable, and caring home environment that meets the daily needs of foster children, including food, clothing, hygiene, and emotional support.
- Support the educational, medical, and developmental needs of foster children by coordinating appointments, attending school meetings, and encouraging positive growth.
- Maintain open and effective communication with child welfare agencies, social workers, biological families (when appropriate), and other stakeholders involved in the child’s care.
- Document and report any changes in the child’s behavior, health, or circumstances to the appropriate authorities promptly and accurately.
- Promote the child’s cultural identity, personal interests, and social connections to foster a sense of belonging and self-esteem.

Skills: The skills required for this role are applied daily to create a nurturing and structured environment that supports the growth and healing of foster children. Effective communication skills enable you to collaborate with professionals and advocate for the child’s needs. Patience and emotional resilience are essential when managing challenging behaviors and adapting to changing circumstances.

Organizational skills help in managing appointments, documentation, and coordinating care plans. Additionally, empathy and cultural sensitivity are vital to respect each child’s background and foster a positive sense of identity.
